Job Description
Position Title: Network & System Administrator


Location: Edmonton (onsite)


Type: Permanent


The Position


Our client, located in the West end of Edmonton, is seeking a permanent, full-time Network & Systems Administrator for their organization. Your role is to plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business, financial, and operations systems supporting core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data supporting business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. You are also responsible for generating and compiling reports based on the findings, with probable causes and possible solutions to systems issues. You will apply your proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IS investments.


What You'll Do


Reporting to the Director of Information Technology and Systems, you will:


  • Installs firmware and security updates on servers, printers, and related networking equipment.
  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups.
  • Install, configure and maintain IPS/IDS, Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, Anti-Malware, etc., for maximum internal network protection.
  • Monitors scheduled jobs and computer output for completeness, accuracy, and errors.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
  • Monitor datacenter health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed.
  • Log all computer, terminal, and printer hardware/software problems. Call appropriate maintenance organizations and arrange for repairs.
  • Create system design proposals.
  • Maintain internal infrastructure requirements, including laptops, servers, switches, wireless access points, Starlink sat, firewalls, printers, phones, and security updates, support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments.
  • Create scripts for automation of common tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment, and Mobile services.
  • Maintain Unified Communications, VoIP, and any related equipment, services, and platforms.
  • Assist with software upgrades and installations.
  • Maintain all data used for redundancy efforts and assist with remediation efforts as a result of test findings and risk assessments.
  • Provide orientation and training to end-users for all modified and new systems.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems and other post-implementation support.
  • Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in various systems across the organization.
  • Perform all critical data backups and secures data according to established procedures.
  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly.
  • Create systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmers.

  • Interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root causes, and provide technical support when needed.
  • Configure and maintain Microsoft Active Directory.
  • System Administration
  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in implementing decisions.
  • Installs, configures, tests and maintains servers, SAN, and related networking equipment.


Mandatories


  • Strong knowledge of patching methodologies and the ability to create new methods as required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, including excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring tools and client management tools.
  • Minimum ITIL Foundation v3 Certification, additional ITIL certifications are considered an asset.
  • Strong skill in creating and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of the following Infrastructure components: Telephony (Avaya), Servers (Cisco UCS), Storage (Synology), Network (HPe), Security and Client.
  • Understanding of Layer 2 and 3 network infrastructure.
  • 5 years of IS-related experience in HPe Switching, Microsoft Power BI/Apps, Microsoft Access, SQL Development, and system integration.
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or Information Systems, or related discipline or experience/education.
  • Strong ability to research and recommend improvements to the organization's hardware, software and infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with networking, routing, switching, Firewalls, VPN, LAN, WAN, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Demonstrate active listening and strong facilitation.
  • Strong skill in supporting applications and systems, including hardware and software.
  • Skill in promptly detecting, analyzing and resolving computer software and network problems, sometimes with little time or data.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile devices and device administration.
  • Strong knowledge in the administration and use of the following: Windows Server, Active Directory, IIS, Windows 10\11, VMware, and Exchange Online.
  • Experience in project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure).
  • Strong knowledge of Client-Server, Web-based and SaaS applications.
