Job Description
Overview


Element has an opportunity for a Microbiology Technician Assistant in a Food and Environment lab in Calgary whose primary responsibility is to support laboratory operations by conducting the relevant microbiological testing.


Responsibilities


  • Shifts vary between the hours of 8 AM and 8 PM 7 days a week
  • Role includes working on week-ends and some paid overtime as required
  • Maintain accurate records with a strict adherence to the corporate Quality System


Skills / Qualifications


  • A preference will be given to candidates with specific microbiological experience in routine food and water methodologies including but not limited to: Standard plate counts, Total coliforms, E. coli, Yeast and Mold, Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli O157:H7 and many more
  • Good English communication skills
  • Excellent aseptic technique
  • High School degree however preference will be given to applicants with post secondary education in a science related field
  • Efficient in Windows based software applications
  • Experience with Allergen quantification would be an asset
  • Microbiological techniques such as: direct plating, serial dilutions, qualitative pathogen detection, PCR, ELISA, biochemical bacterial identifications, membrane filtration, MPN and much more
  • Effective time management
