Job Description
Job Summary And Requirements
This posting is to hire a term position until March 2025, working 75 hours bi-weekly as a Community Counsellor who will be working in Carcross.
An eligibility list will be established in this competition and may be used to fill similar positions in other communities (excluding Whitehorse).
Working as a member of the Mental Wellness and Substance Use (MWSU) team, our Community Counsellors provide assessment, treatment services, and case management to clients struggling with any combination of mental health problems, diagnosed mental illness, problematic substance use and addiction, and concurrent disorders. You will often be the first point of contact for individuals in the community who may require. Within the context of a client centered care model, you will be responsible for intake, assessment, treatment planning, crisis intervention, aftercare services, consultation, and individual counselling and group programming to facilitate and coordinate client access to services. Community outreach to support the needs of hard-to-reach clients is a part of this role.
In this position and as part of the Community Hubs team for MWSU, you will work as part of a larger team of mental wellness professionals, which includes counsellors, mental health nurses and support workers. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, MWSU Counsellors collaborate closely with First Nation Governments and partners in the communities they serve to support the holistic needs of clients and providing continuity across the care continuum. The incumbent will also work closely with psychiatric services and other partners within medical and health and social services. Engaging in, and contributing to, community-based and cultural programing with local First Nation and municipal governments is an important part of this role.
