Job Summary And Requirements
Mental Health Support Worker Health and Social Services
This is to hire one (1) permanent full-time position. An eligibility list is also being established to fill anticipatory permanent, term, auxiliary-on-call, and casual positions during the life of the eligibility list.
The Mental Health Support Worker is responsible for working as part of the Psychiatric Outreach Program, providing support to individuals living with serious and persistent mental health concerns in Whitehorse. The position is part of a multidisciplinary team and the incumbent is responsible for collaborating with mental health clinicians regarding individual client treatment plans. The incumbent is responsible for working closely with other community agencies in the provision and coordination of services to enable clients to live as independently as possible in the community. The Mental Health Support Worker assists with planning and implementing psycho-social rehabilitation groups.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how your work experiences and related duties align with the essential qualifications listed below. Ensure a month/year to month/year format is used throughout your resume. Please note that selection for further consideration will be based on the information you provide in your resume.
  • Considerable and recent experience providing service to individuals with serious and persistent mental health issues, such as assessments, planning and implementing support plans.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and risk assessments with individuals in crisis
  • Education or training in trauma-informed practice
  • Experience working on a multidisciplinary team and collaboratively contributing to the implementation of client treatment plans.
Desired Knowledge, Skills And Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess and monitor progress with treatment and support plans and assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL)
  • Demonstrate an ability to deal with crisis situations
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with community stakeholders to build capacity based on community needs
  • Demonstrate an understanding of a harm-reduction philosophy and principles
  • Effective communication supported by strong conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrate strong self-awareness and an ability to build and maintain effective relationships
Additional Information
Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • First Aid & CPR C (to be obtained within 6 months of hire).
  • WHMIS within one month of hire
