ROLE:

The Mechanical Designer designs all mechanical systems for our test solutions, including machine frame, mechanisms, cables, connectors, and fixtures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform engineering calculations (to determine: materials, speeds, torques, forces, etc.)
• Assist the field service technicians to troubleshoot problems as required
• Analyze engineering specifications and customer requirements
• Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards
• Develop a test plan to verify that the equipment meets all relevant specifications including safety standards
• Prepare documentation including operator manuals, set-up manuals, and service manuals
• Assist the field service technicians to troubleshoot problems
• Design mechanisms, subsystems, and complete machines involving mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic components using SolidWorks
• Communicate with customers and vendors for technical information and specifications
• Produce drawings and bills of materials using CAD and ERP tools

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in automotive industry in JIT environment
• Applicable safety and ergonomics standards
• Understanding of GD&T and CNC machining
• Experience designing connectors and cables
• Solid understanding of pneumatics
• Ability to work on multiple projects and handle tight timelines
• Ability to use Solid Works (mechanical CAD) effectively in the design work
• Familiar with product design
• Exceptional communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
• A post secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 7+ years experience in a similar position.
