Linguist – Project Manager

As a linguist-project manager working with the data team, your role would involve managing language-related projects that require data analysis and processing. You would collaborate closely with the data team to ensure that language data is collected, analyzed, and interpreted accurately to inform decision-making and achieve project goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

· Overseeing and managing the language consultants’ team responsible for the generation of language data.

· Ensuring the delivery of high-quality language data in accordance with project requirements by providing guidance and setting expectations.

· Reviewing the language data generated by language consultants and conducting quality assessments to ensure accuracy and adherence to project guidelines.

· Collaborating with engineers and researchers to provide linguistic expertise on language-related aspects of the project. This could involve providing insights on language patterns, grammar, syntax, phonetics, sociolinguistic factors, and other linguistic nuances that may impact project outcomes.

· Ensuring that language consultants are working according to the project timeline and resource allocation. Monitoring progress, identifying, and resolving any issues or delays, and managing resources effectively to ensure timely completion of the project.

· Working closely with cross-functional teams, such as data scientists, engineers, researchers, and other stakeholders, to ensure smooth communication, coordination, and alignment of efforts towards project goals. Providing linguistic expertise in discussions and decision-making processes to ensure that language-related aspects are considered and addressed.

· Keeping records of project activities, data quality assessments, and other relevant information.

· Building and maintaining positive relationships with language consultant contractors, providing support, addressing any issues or concerns, and ensuring their satisfaction and productivity in the project.

Education and certifications:

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics or any other related field

Required Skills:

• Proficiency in user-level Linux commands for basic system operations, such as navigating the file system, managing files and directories.
• Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, as well as a text editor such as emacs or vi.
• Basic programming skills in a scripting language such as Perl or Python
• Proficiency in at least one European language other than English/German/French at a beginner or intermediate level, with a preference for proficiency in multiple languages.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey complex information in a professional manner.
• Ability to use regular expressions for text processing tasks.
