Job Description

Medavie is a national health solutions partner that integrates benefits management, health management and health care delivery. Together, with our team of more than 7,700 professionals, we are committed to improving the wellbeing of Canadians.

As a not-for-profit organization, Medavie oversees Medavie Blue Cross, a premier all-in-one benefits carrier and public health program administrator, and Medavie Health Services, a national primary health care solutions organization and the largest contracted provider of emergency management services in Canada.

We are one of Canada's Most Admired Corporate Cultures, one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and an Imagine Canada Caring Company.

We don’t have shareholders. Instead, we proudly invest in communities to help address some of Canada’s most pressing health care challenges.

The Opportunity

The Manager, External Communications and Stakeholder Engagement is responsible for creating and executing communications and engagement strategies to external audiences to support business objectives across Medavie, Medavie Blue Cross and Medavie Health Services.

This includes working with the broader corporate communications team to enhance the reputation and awareness of Medavie and its operating companies in the communities where we operate through anticipating potential issues and providing recommendations on how best to engage and communicate with stakeholders. This position will manage two direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Anticipate and proactively prepare for issues by scanning landscape and ensure our position is clearly defined and shared with key stakeholders
  • Support the management of crisis/reputational issues and response when needed both internally and externally to various stakeholders
  • Develop, manage and maintain metrics for monitoring effectiveness of external communications and engagement to drive continuous results including identifying trends.
  • Lead and implement proactive storytelling in the communities where we operate to strengthen the organization’s external communications and ensure alignment/integration with the overall corporate communications strategy
  • Build and execute grass-roots stakeholder engagement plans to raise awareness and strengthen corporate reputation
  • Establish and maintain relationships with media and stakeholders, including serving as spokesperson and responding to requests for information from the media, community members or stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • An understanding of best-practice public relations/corporate communications and stakeholder relations
  • Bilingualism and national level experience considered an asset. Preferably in a large, complex organizational setting.
  • Experience acting as a corporate spokesperson
  • Willingness to work on issues outside of core office work hours – being accessible and responsive.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • University degree, preferably in public relations, journalism or communications, planning, or business
  • Ability to mentor and develop people to support a high-performance culture
  • At minimum of ten years’ experience in communications, or public relations, with demonstrated skills in issues and reputation management, and media relations with at least two years at a management level
  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines, exceptional prioritization, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated results-oriented experience working with media and stakeholders

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Medavie strives to foster a culture where everyone is enabled to achieve their full potential - a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) where we live our values every day in the way we treat each other, our members and the communities we serve. Accessibility is a top priority.
