System Administrator - Linux

3 Months + Mandate

Here is a brief overview of the tasks and responsibilities that will fall to you:

• Teamwork, adherence to company standards and change management processes, and efforts to improve IT standards and policies.
• Expert knowledge of UNIX kernel and networking subsystem tuning and optimization desirable;
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP and basic networking - ability to use and understand tcpdump/snoop results;
• Maintain complete documentation and inventory for deployed systems;
• Ensure optimal resilience of deployed systems and meet all disaster recovery requirements defined by the company;
• Have the ability to interact with users at all levels of the organization and good skills in supporting end users;
• Be well organized, responsible, good project manager, good oral and written communication skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced business environment;
• Have a degree in information systems;
• Knowledge of system performance and monitoring tools such as Geneos, sar, iostat, vmstat, etc.
• Maintain high-level technical skills and business knowledge through proactive self-study, in addition to any formal training provided by the company;
• Liaise with application developers to collect requirements, design and deploy standard systems, which clearly differentiate production, disaster recovery, test and development;
• Have hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (Solaris Zones, Ldoms, VMWare, KVM, etc.);

• Assess emerging technologies and align their benefits with the company's business strategy.
• Demonstrate at least five (5) years of experience in a Linux/UNIX environment in the financial services sector;
• Good programming skills with Perl, Awk, Sed, Shell script (Bourne, C, Korn);
• Proactively monitor all UNIX systems using standard tools;
• Liaise with IT production engineers for the resolution of complex and cross-platform problems;
• Provide 24/7/365 primary support to all RedHat Linux, Centos, Ubuntu and Solaris servers;
• In-depth knowledge of RedHat Enterprise 6.x, 7.x, 8.x and solid knowledge of Centos and Ubuntu;
• Be comfortable performing system upgrades, installing layered products, analyzing and troubleshooting complex production systems;
• Ensure that all systems are backed up in accordance with business requirements and notify data stewards of any failures;
• Possess the following knowledge:
• Have hands-on experience with various hardware, including Dell and Client servers;
• The profile sought is the following:
• Determine operational and infrastructure risks within the environment and collaborate with the application development team and the equity department to make corrections and de-risk;

40h/week

TT: 50% office

Shift (with flexibility on choices)

7:30 - 4:30

8:30 - 5:30

9:30 - 6:30

On call 1 week every 10 or 12 weeks

Required:

- 5 years of experience in system administration in a Linux environment

- Red Hat Experience

- Good programming skills with one of these: Perl, Awk, Sed, Shell script (Bourne, C, Korn), Bash

Assets:

- Experience in a financial environment

- Ansible, Puppet
