Job Description

What You Will Do:

CTN is looking for a permanent, full-time Lead, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) who will be responsible for planning and facilitating a strategy at Children’s Treatment Network that helps build a more equitable, diverse, inclusive, anti-racist and anti-oppressive environment for all CTN stakeholders, including the kids, youth, and families we serve, employees, service providers and other stakeholders. As the organization’s subject matter expert and a member of the leadership team, you will work and consult with all levels of leadership to provide strategic advice, mentorship, support, and education about topics that can improve equity within our organization and communities we serve. In this role, you will create a strategy that outlines the actions required to drive change by dismantling systemic barriers to health equity within the organization and the communities we serve with a structured, results-driven approach to EDI. As part of this work, you will also be responsible for a longer-term organizational action plan/roadmap to ensure EDI practices at CTN are sustainably supported. As an expert trust and relationship builder, you will combine subject matter expertise with data-savvy communication and storytelling skills to educate, inspire and galvanize stakeholders on topics that can be complex and sensitive. Most importantly, the Lead, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion carries out their work with a deep understanding of the kids, youth, and families CTN serves and the service providers who work on our behalf. This role reports to the Director, Strategy, Communications and Engagement.


Responsibilities:

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership and Advisory Services

  • Provides advice and guidance to internal clients on EDI as requested and identified
  • Leads the preparation of related executive briefings and providing EDI-related advice, including on the interpretation of policies, practices and recommendations to key personnel, including the CEO and senior leadership team, as applicable
  • Identify, advise and manage CTN’s organizational actions and response to EDI related topics including current events, awareness campaigns, etc. in a way that is authentic and contributes to an inclusive, anti-oppressive and anti-racist culture
  • Works with leaders and teams to identify immediate opportunities to increase equity, diversity and inclusivity practices
  • Development, implementation and oversight of an organizational EDI action plan/roadmap in alignment with CTN’s strategic plan and developing and implementing related initiatives to support learning and leadership capacity across the organization
  • Develops and nurtures networks and relationships to enhance cooperative and timely access to appropriate expertise, both internally and externally
  • Researches, monitors and analyses emerging trends, issues, challenges and best practices in EDI in the children’s development and broader public sector to inform future strategies and policy direction
  • Leads and/or provides strategic support to enterprise-level special projects on EDI as assigned (e.g. strategic planning, various quality improvement initiatives, modernization efforts, etc.)
  • Provide strategic advice, recommendations and subject matter expertise when supporting leaders with EDI related projects or initiatives, including identifying needed changes and prioritizing based on impact and organizational capacity


Operations, Implementation and Measurement

  • Support colleagues leading EDI related projects that require coordination of activity across the organization/network and/or with external vendors
  • Design and manage related EDI policies and plans as needed
  • Operate as the primary liaison for any external EDI vendors as appropriate
  • Develops recommendations and planning required for collecting EDI data, metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to highlight emerging trends and demonstrate effectiveness and impact of EDI initiatives using performance measurement principles in alignment with CTN’s Quality framework and strategic plan
  • Further EDI goals though through communications, compelling presentations, storytelling, guest speakers, training, etc.
  • Manage lifecycle of related projects as appropriate including the application of codesign and change management methodologies and principles where relevant
  • Support colleagues in EDI related work/projects by sharing expertise, best practices and processes, guidance and advice


Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Planning

  • Reviews and assesses organizational needs and makes recommendations to enhance equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural safety, including frameworks and programming to incorporate EDI into business practices across the organization and embed EDI into employee and stakeholder experiences, including change management strategies and processes
  • Identifies and works collaboratively to plan for longer-term data requirements and analysis that will be needed to support EDI goals at CTN
  • Identifies potential strategic relationships for CTN with organizations that focus on supporting under-represented, equity seeking communities


Other Duties

  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of themselves and other workers at CTN; and reports situations related to health and safety to the supervisor
  • Take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of clients at CTN when made aware of the existence of any potential danger to client safety
  • Undertake other tasks as assigned by the Director and relevant to the position


What We Need:

  • Ability to work flexible hours in support of requirements that may fall outside of the typical work hour framework
  • Certified First Aid considered an asset
  • Exceptional level of attention to detail
  • Research, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Experience/familiarity with publicly-funded social services, community, disability support or healthcare sectors an asset
  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling and influencing skills to effectively communicate complex, sensitive EDI issues to a varied audience and develop strategic, compelling presentations, training sessions and other products to successfully implement EDI initiatives across the organization
  • Strategic thinking skills to enable effective participation in initiatives that require thought leadership
  • High level of business, sectoral, environmental and organizational acumen
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience
  • Experience advancing anti-racist, anti-oppressive and culturally safe approaches within organizations and a thorough understanding of the key processes needed in developing an equity, diversity, and inclusion strategy
  • Familiarity with network models of operations an asset
  • Thorough understanding of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (preferably through lived experience) and of current issues and challenges facing individuals from equity-seeking communities
  • Ability to communicate in French or other languages considered an asset
  • Knowledge of stakeholder consultation, engagement and management principles/strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently apply critical thinking skills in deadline-driven environment
  • Knowledge of and expertise in the application of the principles and practices of environmental scanning, trends forecasting, and issues analysis in order to support various initiatives, particularly those with organization-wide implications
  • Lived experience as a person with a disability or a caregiver of a child with a disability and/or developmental needs is considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience providing technical or functional guidance to senior leadership, ideally with some experience in an EDI-focused role or utilizing, advising, consulting, educating, coaching and/or advancing EDI principles in a work setting
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience with codesign and a variety of change management theories and methodologies
  • Confidence and experience in making connections across public and private sector organizations
  • Minimum of a 4-year university degree in communication, social justice, equity, political science, sociology, psychology, business, or related field is required
  • Demonstrated commitment to a safe environment for staff, clients and families by working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related policies
  • Project management skills and the ability to lead initiatives from conceptualization to realization to develop, implement and/or participate in a variety of projects
  • Demonstrated ability to address sensitive topics and facilitate, support, and provide advice for conversations and meetings about racism, discrimination and marginalization, or other issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
