Welcome to Timbre!
We are Timbre Games (part of the Sumo Digital Group), a new studio in Vancouver, Canada focused on making exciting, innovative game experiences. Timbre’s vision is to change the games industry through the original games we make, as well as how we make them. We’re building an inclusive, supportive culture that allows us to explore fresh, new (and sometimes weird) ideas. We’re searching for more visionary explorers to join our team of diverse voices, coming together to develop games that are accessible to a wide audience.
If you’re thinking about your next adventure, send us your resume to talk to our team about how you can add your voice to the games we’re working on.
Art at Timbre Games
We are visionaries, sculptors, painters and landscapers of virtual worlds. Together, we breathe life into creative concepts and ideas while defining experiences and quality. We collaborate with multiple departments to establish our vision, and absolutely light up as we watch it all come together. We are utilizing advanced tools and technologies to shape our vision of building diverse and accessible AAA games.
At Timbre, we take mentoring seriously, and as a lead, we want you to as well. We are here to make amazing games and grow the next generation of game industry people – two goals that are at the heart of who we are.
Lead Environment Artists impact our team by leading a creative, passionate and talent through production on our first stylized, high-production quality game. Our Lead Environment Artist will create clarity through each milestone in partnership with the Art Director and Principal Environment Artist, creating beautiful, magical worlds for our players to dive into!
As a Lead Environment Artist At Timbre, You Will
  • Meet regularly with external partners to collaborate and present visual designs and overall product goals
  • With a player-first focus, alongside our Principal Environment Artist, drive the environment art style in-engine (UE5) to create compelling, magical worlds! You’ll still be creating beautiful art!
  • Foster a coaching culture for the Environment team by guiding them through creative and technical blockers, helping them to achieve their career goals and growth
  • Partner with Production on staffing plans and project roadmaps. This will include inclusive hiring and building a team that can help you execute on the game and team’s vision alongside our Recruitment team
  • Shape and define the priorities for the Environment team alongside the Art Director
  • Scope, prioritize & delegate features and game content throughout the project’s life cycle with the environment team via our agile process, ensuring they remain empowered to execute with confidence and clarity on the game vision
  • Develop pipelines and steer decision-making for our environment art process in partnership with the Environment and Tech Art teams, improving workflow efficiencies and creating beautiful content scalable
What You Bring
  • Experience as a Lead on at least 1 shipped title, from pre-production through to launch
  • Proficiency in video game development tools, pipelines, and workflows, plus an interest in jumping into Unreal when needed
  • Familiarity with texture creation software including Substance Designer and Painter
  • Experience managing other game artists, overseeing the growth and development of your team to the next steps in their careers
  • A collaborative approach to communication: you are experienced in delivering clear, concise messages that are easily understood by all disciplines, as well as any external partners
  • A portfolio showcasing a diverse range of 3D environments
What You Might Bring
  • Experience in creating high quality, stylized art
  • Experience with, or an appreciation of, procedural generation and the possibilities that creates for game art
