Job Description
Advisian, Worley Group

Vancouver, BC

Advisian is the independent consulting business line of the Worley Group with more than 2,000 people in 19 countries. We provide solutions for clients across a range of industries, including ports and marine terminals, renewable energy, mining, and onshore and offshore oil and gas. As part of one of the world’s largest engineering firms, we continue to push boundaries and extend our capabilities globally. Worley is a company that prides itself on providing sustainable and high-quality services that exceed our customer’s expectations, which is why we manage some of the world's leading projects.

Advisian is a leading provider of Environment and Society (E&S) services in Canada. The E&S Service Line is a vibrant and growing team covering: Planning, Monitoring & Management (including marine, atmospherics, terrestrial, and aquatics); Society & Engagement; and Regulatory, Permitting & Approvals. We provide a full range of environmental services with a strong reputation for technical excellence, innovation and quality of work within small project consulting through to large project engineering and construction management delivery. We pride ourselves on the integration of our E&S specialists with our engineering, construction management and project delivery teams. Our aim is to recruit, develop, and most importantly, retain the people who share our vision and strategy.

We have a challenging opportunity for a Part-Time or Full-Time Senior Aquatic Ecologist to join our dynamic team. Our ideal candidate will have a technical background in water quality and fish and fish habitat and be experienced in permitting intertidal projects in areas such as the Fraser River. This position would be based in Vancouver, with project work focused in BC, but also in other provinces and territories across Canada. Advisian offers the flexibility to work from your home or the Vancouver office.

As our ideal candidate for this dynamic and challenging role, your responsibilities will consist of the following tasks:

  • Deliver aquatic scopes within the ‘as sold’ gross margin.
  • Identify new opportunities and manage proposal preparation and client-facing activities
  • Capitalize on the existing opportunities in the mining, transmission and port and marine sector in Western Canada
  • Be an Advisian ambassador in the field and participate in thought leadership (conferences, papers)
  • High level of experience and background in freshwater and anadromous fishes, identification and characterization of fish habitat and leading aquatic field work and assessments involving fish populations, benthic invertebrate communities, as well as water and sediment chemistry
  • Help identify and mentor members of the Aquatic Sciences team to support their technical and career development
  • Technical leadership for the delivery of high-quality Aquatic Science and Data Collection services

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Expert knowledge in the aquatic sciences within Western Canada
  • Demonstrated commitment to HSE leadership
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree from an accredited institution plus appropriate continuing education in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Proven record of mentoring junior and intermediate staff, including a network of potential contract aquatic specialists
  • 15+ years of experience in the environmental consulting field
  • Excellent client interfacing skills and business development
  • Preparation of proposals, budget estimates and schedules for projects / work packages
  • Technical reporting prowess
  • Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.) or eligibility for professional registration in British Columbia;
  • Track record of successful management of projects / work packages to meet agreed budget and schedule
  • A strong network of industry contacts and within the regulatory community (such as DFO and provincial and territorial regulatory bodies)

Advisian (part of the Worley Group) offers an excellent remuneration & benefits package, a friendly, professional, dynamic and flexible work environment along with the opportunity to develop your career prospects within Canada and overseas.

We strive to be an industry leader in health, safety and environmental performance. Our vision is to achieve zero harm to people and assets, and zero environmental incidents. We select people who share our values, beliefs and commitment to this vision and who demonstrate the expected behaviors, competencies and performance associated with their prospective roles within the company.

We thank all candidates for their interest; however, only those selected for interviews will be contacted. Advisian (part of the Worley Group) is an equal opportunity employer).
