Job Description

Flax Creatives is a YouTube production service that collaborates with a diverse range of creators. Managing channels with a combined total of roughly 12 million subscribers, we’ve successfully generated over 12 billion views.

We’re looking for an experienced full time Junior YouTube editor to join our team. You’ll work with a variety of different channels based on your skills and experience. As a junior editor you’ll be in charge of the final product, working closely with a senior editor to make sure videos are completed on time and above expectation. This role is results based, and editors will be rewarded for outstanding work.

TASKS & DUTIES

You will set up a timeline for the Video Editor. While directly editing the A Roll, your key job as Junior Editor is to create the building blocks for the Senior Video Editor to refine. You build narrative in the video as your decisions will impact how the video flows, the content on the timeline and ultimately the core components of a great video.

The process is hosted in Google Drive so any editor can access a project file at anytime:

  1. Create timeline
  2. Cut down footage removing all filler works, mistakes and create a video flow
  3. Drop music & SFX into project
  4. Drop broll onto timeline for Video Editor
  5. Add chapters or any notes that speed up the Video Editor’s process

Additional tasks include reviewing YouTube Studio analytics once the video is up and writing down learnings to present to the editor and wider creative team.

Technical Requirements:

  • Familiarity with the Google Workspace (Google Drive, Sheets, Docs etc.) is essential.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro is required.
  • A minimum Wi-Fi speed of 150mbps is required (you can easily test this by searching "My Wi-Fi Speed").
  • Experience with Photoshop, After Effects, Frame.io, and Slack is highly desirable.
  • Ability to collaborate with a team on Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro is necessary.

Experience:

  • A sound understanding of basic copyright law and YouTube's best practices.
  • Experience with short-form content is a plus.
  • Proven results from your work - your videos should show an average percentage viewed (APV) of 35+%, and have generated over 100,000 views.
  • At least 2 years of experience editing YouTube videos.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your growth and achievements as an editor, as well as your vision for improving future projects on YouTube specifically. Do not apply with a portfolio of videos off YouTube, we will not review it.

Soft Skills:

Creativity:

  • Storytelling: You understand that the impact of a story depends on how it's told. You’re comfortable making editorial decisions based on the script, including the choice of footage, sequencing, and pacing. You’re unafraid to make changes, adding or subtracting content as necessary.
  • Problem-solving: You have a knack for finding solutions when things go awry and be proactive about learning from and preventing recurrent issues.
  • Industry Knowledge: You have a good understanding of the YouTube landscape, the algorithm, and the psychology of storytelling, editing, and sound design. A commitment to ongoing learning in these areas is crucial.

Time Management:

  • Punctuality and accountability are key - we expect you to attend meetings on time and be available to discuss work.
  • You must be able to efficiently edit content, provide accurate timeline estimates, and strive to complete tasks ahead of schedule.

Detail-oriented and Strong Communication Skills:

  • We value team members who can give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Good communication is crucial, not only for editing but also for effective teamwork. Understanding this isn’t a job you work alone.
  • We're looking for an individual who is committed to constant improvement, who is attentive to even the smallest details, and who is willing to share their findings with the team.
  • Please write Lemon in the last question on the form!

Data-Driven Approach:

  • We believe that great video editors leverage data to improve their work. You understand and use YouTube metrics like Click Through Rate (CTR), Average View Duration (AVD), and session time goals to enhance the quality of our clients' videos based on data from previous projects.
