Job Description
R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) has an opening for a Junior Air & Noise Specialist to join our Air & Noise Group. This position can be based out of our Mississauga, Newmarket or Pickering Office and will report to the Manager, Air & Noise.


We encourage applications from recent chemistry or physics graduates with relevant work term experience, existing skills and an interest in air quality, acoustics/noise and vibration.


The Air & Noise Group at Burnside consists of engineers, technicians, and environmental scientists who contribute a broad range of experience in providing solutions to project challenges. The group undertakes work for a variety of clients including municipalities, private sector, and indigenous communities involved in land development, industry, and transportation. Client industries include and food manufacturing, agricultural pharmaceuticals, chemical distribution, fertilizer manufacturing, chemical refining, stainless steel products and heavy industrial processes.

The Role


The position involves providing assistance to Project Managers, Professional Engineers and technical staff on a variety of projects.


More specifically, the position will involve carrying out the following duties;


  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Build and run simulation models using AERMOD and Predictor; and
  • Computation and data assessment using MS Excel;
  • Data entry and management;
  • Field measurements/data collection, including working on the roofs of buildings so working at heights is a requirement;
  • Drafting and production of reports and Permit applications;


Professional Knowledge & Qualifications


Qualified candidates must have:


  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks; and
  • Degree in Chemistry (Air Quality), or a degree in Physics (Noise) or related discipline;
  • An interest in air dispersion modeling and noise impact assessments;
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere;
  • Attention to detail, a personal drive for high quality, a mathematical aptitude, and an in depth understanding of Microsoft Excel;
  • Ability to function in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary consulting environment.


Qualified candidates should have:


  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Rudimentary knowledge of AutoCAD and/or QGIS; and
  • High degree of problem solving and decision making skills;
