Job Description
Academic Services is focused on supporting SAIT’s schools and departments in their pursuit of SAIT’s strategic priorities. Academic Services brings together several academic development, delivery, and quality assurance units with a common goal: student success. Academic Services provides unique, flexible support programing designed to help learners succeed in their chosen SAIT career program.


The Opportunity


Academic Services is dedicated to serving SAIT schools and learners by providing training in essential and transferable skills through our foundational and elective courses in communications, liberal arts, math, engineering sciences, and technology literacy. The following programs are also part of Academic Services: Academic Upgrading, English Language Foundations, Open Studies, and Academic Upgrading (Non-daytime).


Academic Services is currently looking for future instructors committed to helping students acquire the foundational skills they will need to succeed in their program of study and in the workplace after graduation. We offer a wide range of courses during the day (Monday-Friday, between 8AM-6PM) evening and weekend courses. Future opportunities are casual (sessional) hourly roles where the hours per week may vary.


Note: Your resume will be added to a pool for future consideration. The Role


  • Ensure course content is up-to-date and relevant to the program of study
  • Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines, and safety standards as required
  • Maintain and update curriculum as required
  • Stay abreast of emerging pedagogical issues and educational technologies
  • Achievement of school initiatives and objectives
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement by providing timely, formative feedback
  • Work collaboratively with the other course instructors
  • Be an active and engaged member of Academic Services
  • Prepare in-class and study materials for learners
  • Attend department meetings and SAIT’s instructor training program
  • Provide accurate and up-to-date reporting of student grades
  • Develop quality presentations for students
  • All other duties as required for the position
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and advice to learners
Qualifications


  • Graduate education and/or work experience in adult education would be an asset
  • Comfortable speaking to the public
  • Experience teaching technology-enhanced courses are required
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Positive and respectful attitude
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-secondary teaching experience in a relevant discipline
  • Ability to read, interpret and deliver curriculum
  • Fluent in English (reading and vocabulary)
  • Basic level of proficiency working in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
