About the Opportunity
Healthy Communities Program Officer works with team members and partners to support initiatives that protect and promote health, reduce health inequities and address the determinants of health. The Program Officer synthesizes data and evidence and uses knowledge translation and mobilization techniques and tools to support the Healthy Communities program in application of comprehensive, evidence informed policies and strategies.
The Program Officer provides leadership and advanced knowledge in health promotion, policy development and community development theory and practice to support the implementation of the health communities program throughout the province. The position is responsible for:
- Developing policy and practice tools to support healthy communities program and healthy public policy work.
- Managing projects and coordinating teams working on a specific content issue.
- Providing expert level advice, evidence and best practice on advancing the understanding of healthy communities work .
- Knowledge translation by retrieving, assessing and synthesizing complex research findings.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Action oriented and strong ability to complete time sensitive tasks.
- Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support health equity work.
- Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of oppression as a social determinant of health, awareness and study of one’s own power and privilege and, appropriate public health approaches to reduce health inequities.
- Demonstrated proficiency in LEADS
- Demonstrated experience in evidence informed practice, conducting rapid evidence reviews and producing evidence briefs.
- Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with communities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders using a variety of methods.
- Demonstrated and strong group facilitation and process skills.
- Demonstrated high standards of ethics, integrity, respect and accountability.
- Demonstrated judgment, decision making, and problem solving skills
- Masters in public health, health promotion or other relevant field with 3 years relevant experience or Baccalaureate degree in health promotion, sociology or other relevant field with 5 years relevant experience
- Demonstrated project management, planning and time management skills. Ability to work flexibly and with competing priorities.

Hours
- Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives
$34.96 - $42.58 Hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. (Permanent Long Assignments Only)
