Gis Specialist – Entry Level (Hybrid)

Summary

:

Barr is seeking a GIS specialist to join our team in Calgary. This position involves GIS work including map and figure creation, data formatting and editing, data management, data analysis, and quality control. The person in this position will act as the primary internal consultant for GIS projects in the office in which they are based. The position will require identifying, determining, and communicating GIS best practices and resources for technical solutions for both internal and external clients. Project responsibilities may include working with and interpreting aerial photos, analyzing both raster and vector data, completing database entries and queries, working with internet map applications, coordinating GIS work with other software applications (e.g., AutoCAD, Google Earth), and using standard GIS extensions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability and willingness to work independently or as part of a team
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Capacity to thrive in fast-paced work situations
• A flexible working style, self motivation, and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet project commitments
• Experience with Esri’s ArcGIS 10.x Suite or ArcGIS Pro Suite for map creation, spatial data analysis, and data management
• 1+ years of post-graduate GIS experience
• Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future.
• Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results
• Bachelor's degree in GIS, environmental science, or related field
• Experience sourcing and working with data and imagery from a range of public sources
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in GIS, geography, or related field
• Experience with ArcSDE Enterprise Geodatabases Scripting/programming skills (JavaScript, Python, etc.)
• 2+ years of post-graduate GIS experience
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, gINT
• Field experience working with Trimble TerraSync or ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps/Survey123 mobile data collection applications
• One or more years of relevant experience working with Esri’s ArcGIS Pro software
• Experience with AEPA flood studies
• Experience in consulting
• Experience working with Esri’s ArcGIS Online
• Experience with GPS data collection and processing

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, office.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain, steep slopes, and dense vegetation. Job assignments may also involve work on construction and industrial sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
