Job Description
The successful candidate will work under the direction of Superintendents in overseeing workers on site and coordination of operations.


As the point of reference for both workers and supervisors you will be a key component of the success of the project. You should have a solid background in large scale, site-based projects utilizing your leadership skills and experience in the planning, development and coordination of large heavy construction and earthworks projects in the Fort McMurray Alberta area in order to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. In addition General Supervisor's are involved with the interpretation of plans and specifications for projects, contract administration and project controls requirements as well as construction activities associated with the project requirements.

  • Transportation Flights to and from Calgary /Edmonton to site.


Candidates With Civil Experience Preferred.


  • Understanding of mining execution and equipment utilization
  • Complete near miss cards/voice cards
  • Report all incidents and hazards to the Supervisor
  • Ensure all new hires/transfers receive required orientations. Attend and participate in site specific orientations
  • Identify testing requirements and ensure Subcontractors are available to support daily operations
  • Identify surplus equipment and labour resources
  • Ensure compliance to Corporate and client D&A Policies
  • Ensure consistent application of the progressive discipline system
  • Identify quantity and scope changes to the Contract and communicate to Supervisor
  • Ensure efficient deployment and productivity of work crews
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken
  • Adhere to project, company environmental considerations
  • Experience in reading plans and designs
  • Monitor equipment utilization and report down equipment to Mechanics
  • Ensure adequate and suitable safety equipment, including PPE, is supplied, readily accessible, properly used and maintaine
  • Assess and confirm, through documentation, crew competency
  • Mentor fellow workers and lead by example
  • Take corrective action to mitigate immediate hazards, where safe to do so
  • Ensure that all work permits are obtained and adhered to
  • Operate in a safe and courteous manner at all times
  • Complete termination/transfer reports and submit to Supervisor
  • 5-7 years experience in a Supervisory role
  • Conduct incident investigations and prepare associated support documentation immediately
  • Report and respond to any harassment issues
  • Review weekly servicing and preventative maintenance schedules
  • Ensure crews use and understand up to date project cost coding
  • Ability to manage a crew of 80 people
  • Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections and complete follow-up activities
  • Good computer skills required
  • Review safe work plans/ hazard assessment with crew prior to job commencement
  • Report and refuse unsafe work. Report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Complete daily activity reports/daily logs and submit to Supervisor
  • Effective communication skills and able to speak to a large crowd
  • 5-10 years experience in a mining environment (Oilsands preferably)
  • Experience with Overburden, Pipe/Culvert installation, road construction and etc.
  • Promote and ensure the FLRA process is conducted before every task
  • Ensure and enforce compliance to all company, client and legislated Safety policies and procedures
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence; Strong attitude towards safety and ability to lead by example
  • Inspect work site before, during and at end of shift

  • Vision Screening

  • Urine Drug Test
  • Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing
  • Have experience as requested in the job description above
  • Be subject to Random Testing at Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  • Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
  • Audiometric Testing
  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License

  • VOID cheque/direct deposit form
  • Copy of recent Driver’s Abstract
  • Copy of Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • CSO or BSO Certification
