Job Description
  • The Position:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fund Development Manager will have broad operational responsibility for Autism Canada’s fund development including corporate partnerships and sponsorships, major individual giving, recurring giving, events, grant funding and donor relations.


We are seeking a seasoned professional who takes great pride in achieving and exceeding their targets.Someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who works well within a team.Someone with initiative and great business acumen.

The salary is $75,000 per year.


  • Responsibilities:

Fund Development and Administration

  • Support the analysis of (individual and corporate) donor journeys and ensure that we utilize this information to maximize donor engagement and support.
  • Lead the development and execution of targeted annual fundraising initiatives including auctions, direct mail, events, and online campaigns.
  • Develop, implement, and manage Autism Canada’s Donor Recognition program.
  • Design, implement, and manage an annual Fund Development Strategy which increases revenue to support the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Cultivate and manage a diverse portfolio of prospects and develop compelling proposals that will build partnerships and ensure an active prospect pipeline.
  • Represent Autism Canada at fundraising and public awareness events and meet with stakeholders.
  • Undertake regular prospect research using a variety of methods to identify potential funding streams and prioritize opportunities based on organizational needs.
  • Evaluate and report regularly on the progress of the Fund Development program.
  • Achieve or exceed annual revenue targets by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors and corporate partners with the goal of diversifying and strengthening the funding model.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities, including receiving and responding to inquiries related to fundraising.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide support to Autism Canada's new staff, as required.
  • Liaise with, provide subject matter expertise to, and work collaboratively with Autism Canada’s management team.
  • Provide leadership in fund development and donor relations to other members of the Autism Canada staff as needed.
  • Recruit, orient, and manage the performance of staff in the Fund Development portfolio, as required.
  • Lead, inspire and develop a team that fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, and high performers.
  • Recruit, orient, and manage the performance of Canada Summer Jobs students, as required.

Events & Sponsorship

  • Achieve the revenue target for third-party fundraising events by stewarding current third-party fundraisers and responding to inquiries.
  • Assist in sourcing, negotiating, and managing relationships with external vendors and suppliers.
  • Source and secure cash and in-kind sponsors for events and programs and ensure sponsorship deliverables are met.
  • Design and achieve revenue and participant engagement targets for a new Peer-to-Peer fundraising event.
  • Assist in planning and promoting our signature event, The Au-Some Conference.

Communications

  • Assist in the preparation of social media posts and digital marketing to raise awareness of services and opportunities to support the organization financially.
  • In conjunction with the Community Engagement Manager create and evaluate marketing and communication activities to maximize opportunities for promoting Autism Canada and build links with potential and existing funders.
  • In conjunction with the Community Engagement Manager help design donor communication materials, including donor newsletter, campaign documents and thank-you cards.
  • Co-develop external strategies for community impact stories and/or photos.
  • Serve on appropriate community, provincial, and national tables to strengthen Autism Canada’s fund development success as required.


  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Post-secondary education in Business Management, Fundraising or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 8 years of progressive fund development experience, including managing a team.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, personable, and service-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Donor Perfect.
  • Excellent people management and leadership skills; ability to coach, develop and mentor staff.
  • Ability to positively interact internally as a team member, and collaborate will all levels of staff, as well as externally with donors and leadership volunteers.
  • Ability to work within a tight timeline and prioritize in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a high level of comfort communicating complex information to a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience working on peer-to-peer fundraising events.
  • Strong project management skills, and the ability to act, implement and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to proactively monitor and adjust activities to respond to changing circumstances and priorities to meet goals, proactively address issues as they arise and mitigate risks associated to events.
