Reporting to the VP, Operations, this position will be responsible for both freight and asset management. Focus will be on facilitating the strategic initiatives that drive efficiencies, cost savings and performance standards. Partnering with operational leaders is key for success.
Responsibilities:
Freight Management:
o Drive consistency and compliance in all warehouses
o Ensure all freight agreements are signed and aligned with corporate guidelines
o Meet at a minimum annually with all carriers, reviewing freight agreements, RFP review with current & future carriers.
o Drive, manage, review and report savings on inbound/outbound freight
o Achieve targeted results in Freight Savings through daily management
o Review of warehouse and delivery performance standards - (warehouse & delivery in power BI tool)
o Development of annual carrier review meetings & RFP bids. Include local feedback and segment representation.
o Negotiate lower freight costs annually working with corporate team.
Asset Management:
o Consistently maintaining and reviewing asset/equipment list and on order equipment
o Annual review of assets, order expiring leases or suggested replacements ensuring alignment with EV vehicle initiatives
o Ensure old equipment is properly disposed of
o Create and follow up of all capital requisitions with corporate team
o Establish monthly distribution on equipment on order list to local managers
o Create capital requisitions for all segments for equipment & asset approval.
o Standardized specs for all warehouse & fleet equipment.
o Order Samsara units for all new ELD required equipment.
o Recommendation of strategic goals that align with Bunzl Canada & NA such as electric vehicles, innovative warehouse equipment.
Attributes:
• An inspirational partner that our location managers want to work with
• Strong analytical skills in comparing data and reviewing freight agreements
• Not required but recommended a general understanding of how freight companies operate and invoice.
• Ability to work with Excel and data spreadsheets.
• General understanding of delivery vehicles, types, makes & models
• Warehouse or transportation background would be an attribute
Targeted Performance Standards:
• Ensure that we can expect and deliver greater consistency in asset management and cost certainty in freight.
• Achieve Bunzl North America best practices of warehouse and delivery operations in freight agreements & asset management.
• All rate agreements and lane information is loaded into DTA and maintained
• Accurate freight reporting
• Samsara compliance, units installed in all company owned vehicles.
• Compliance with insurance pink cards & DOT numbers across entire fleet
