Job Summary:
Elarex is seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous individual to join the Research and Development team as a Formulation Scientist. The person in this position will report to the Vice President of Research and Development and will focus on developing formulations and drying processes to stabilize vaccine and biological pharmaceuticals. The successful candidate will be actively involved in developing formulations and manufacturing processes and transferring these methods and processes to manufacturers. The ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdepartmental team environment is essential to this role. A thorough understanding of biopharmaceutical development process from discovery to commercialization is highly desirable.
Principal Responsibilities:
·Identify, design, execute, and evaluate formulations to develop robust liquid and dried drug product showing improved stability at refrigerated storage conditions, elevated temperatures and other environmental stresses in a variety of containers.
·Conduct pre-formulation studies and buffer/excipient screening and selection.
·Characterize routes of degradation and mechanism of protection for formulations in liquid and lyophilized formulations.
·Optimize drying processes for proprietary formulations including, but not limited to, PT120 technologies. Develop drying / lyophilization cycles & processes to increase stability of drug products. Focus on new product development & customer product improvement.
·Perform analytical and biophysical characterization assays as needed to assess stability and integrity of drug product formulations.
·Support formulation and process development projects in the areas of vaccine and therapeutics proteins, viral vectors, live and attenuated viruses, mRNA/LNP, antibodies in the areas of vaccines and therapeutics.
·Prepare technical reports and presentations for clear communication of scientific findings across interdisciplinary teams.
·Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
·Ph.D., M.Sc. Or B.Sc. in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related degree.
·2 - 6 years of experience in industrial formulation of biopharmaceuticals.
·Hands-on experience and deep understanding of drying process development and lyophilized products in different packaging systems.
·Hands on experience with excipient selection, buffer screening, lyophilization and other drying technology development, and cycle design are required.
·Extensive experience in stability studies and analytical assays for stability evaluation including DSC, TGA, XRD, DTA, FTIR, residual moisture characterization, etc.
·Working knowledge in Design of Experiments and statistical principles.
·Works collaboratively within group as well as within interdisciplinary teams.
·Manages time effectively demonstrating ability to perform multiple projects at one time
·Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
