Job Summary


The Proteomics Scientist will conduct and manage experiments, analyze, and interpret data, and communicate findings. They will work collaboratively with teams, troubleshoot technical issues, and guide junior team members. The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Analytical Chemistry, demonstrated proteomics expertise, and experience with sample preparation, LC-MS/MS, and data analysis. Strong analytical skills, project management, and teamwork are required, as well as excellent communication and presentation skills.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities



  • Executes discovery and targeted proteomic assays to facilitate compound screening, identify protein targets, elucidate mechanism of action, and support medicinal chemistry efforts.
  • Maintains lab notebooks and documents the experimental results in database.
  • Uses, maintains, and troubleshoots high-resolution mass spectrometers (Orbitrap and TOF), and nanoLC instruments.
  • Trains and supervises junior team members.
  • Carefully documents research workflows, data, and protocols.
  • Monitors, reviews, and critically interprets published research to support experimental efforts.
  • Provides mass spectrometry and proteomics expertise to support Dalriada’s drug discovery programs.
  • Prepares data summaries and reports to communicate project status among diverse audiences such as project teams and executive boards.
  • Develops and conducts mass spectrometry methods for structural characterization of intact and digested proteins.
  • Troubleshoots and develops technical solutions to optimize experiments for robust data output.
  • Designs and conducts proteomic experiments (including experimental design, data collection, interpretation, and presentation).



Education & Certifications



  • Post-graduate lab experience in drug discovery settings is desirable but not necessary.
  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or related discipline.


Requirements

  • Proficiency with open-source and vendor-specific proteomic software (e.g., PEAKS, Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, MS Fragger, Progenesis, etc.).
  • Superior communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and experience in a scripting language (e.g., R, Python).
  • Fast learner, flexible, and innovative, able to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Driven by scientific excellence and cost/process efficiency.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present scientific data, and propose next steps in experimental design and project strategy.
  • Approaches work with an entrepreneurial mindset, working independently and seeking professional input when necessary.
  • Offers timely results through sound judgment and scientific knowledge.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet aggressive project timelines.
  • Experience in both discovery proteomics (label-free, DIA, SILAC, TMT) and targeted proteomics (SRM, PRM).
  • Proficiency in proteomics sample preparation techniques (proteolytic digestion, pull-down methods, solid-phase extraction, probe labeling, etc.).
  • Expertise in operating orbitrap and TOF mass spectrometers.
  • Knowledge of covalent drugs and covalent proteomics.
  • Thinks critically and generates creative solutions to challenging scientific questions.
  • Deep knowledge and proven experience in proteomics and protein biochemistry across various therapeutic areas.
  • Proficiency in relevant programs for data analysis and visualization, such as GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
