First Cook


Reporting to the Chef and Camp Manager the First cook will assist in providing direction to the 2nd Cook and Kitchen Help/Front-end staff to continually improve guest satisfaction. This position is responsible for providing direction to food service team members in day to day preparation and delivery of food to guests. A First Cook will prepare a wide variety of foods, develop meal plans, do inventory and grocery orders, provide direction to kitchen staff, and ensure the highest quality of food possible. You are expected to be a leader, team player and example of excellence.


Roles & Responsibilities


  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Report any and all deficiencies in kitchen equipment functionality and quality of food products to the Chef in a timely manner.
  • Ensure station opening and closing procedures are carried out to standard.
  • Ensure that all food products are handled, stored, prepared and served safely in accordance with HACCP and government Food Safety guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the camp health and safety program.
  • Keep work stations clean and organized including fridges/freezers, countertops and stove tops.
  • Ensure the proper rotation, labeling, and storage to keep food waste at a minimum.
  • Adhere to standardized recipes and specifications to maintain consistency and ensure all standards are met.
  • Review the daily production sheets with the Chef and prepare the necessary food items in accordance with standards in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualification & Certification


  • Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test required.
  • OFA Level 1 & WHIMIS is an asset
  • Petroleum Safety Training or Construction Safety Training System
  • Red Seal Certification or completion of college or other programs in Culinary Arts preferred.
  • A strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
  • 5+ years of food service experience as a first cook preferably in a large remote camp environment.
  • Valid Food Safe Level 2 required.
