Job Description

Deep Trekker, a proud member of the Halma companies, is a leading provider of remotely operated underwater robots and inspection solutions. With a commitment to innovation and excellence, Deep Trekker designs and manufactures advanced marine robots that are used across a wide range of industries, including aquaculture, infrastructure inspection, search and rescue, environmental monitoring, and more. Our teams are expanding and we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller with proficiency in English and Spanish to manage the financial health of our organization.


The Financial Controller will collaborate directly with the CFO and accounting team to prepare monthly, semi-annual, and annual financial reports, ensure regulatory compliance (including tax compliance), and assist with the company's financial planning.


While the primary location for this position is Kitchener, ON, occasional travel to our Chile office may be required to support business activities, training sessions, or other operational needs. The frequency and duration of travel will vary depending on business demands.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with financial standards, regulations, and legislation.
  • Work with the finance team to streamline accounting processes using technology.
  • Manage and comply with local, provincial/state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings in both Canada and Chile.
  • Complete and maintain compliance with all statistical surveys required by Stats Canada.
  • Assist with the implementation of new ERP system in 1-3 years (based on organizational needs)
  • Provide leadership, direction, and management to the accounting team.
  • Manage and oversee financial, VAT, and tax audits.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Coordinate and manage the monthly, semi-annual, and annual close processes for Canada and Chile operations.
  • Develop strategies to optimize multi-currency reporting.
  • Oversee and manage all company accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Manage the preparation of the consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS.


Qualifications:

  • History of internal control implementation and performance.
  • Proficient in English and Spanish (both verbal and written).
  • Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills, which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products, particularly MS Excel.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven track record in leading and developing teams.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting and financial leadership positions.
  • Strong knowledge of tax planning and compliance.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in Canada.
  • Excellent knowledge of multi-currency reporting and consolidations.
  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS.
  • Proven experience in financial project management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
