My client is seeking a Controller. This position is in the Travel Insurance industry with the distribution of product offers and associated service solutions to key stakeholders for their customers traveling abroad or with in Canada.
The Controller will be responsibilities would focus on the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. This position will oversee the building and managing of the accounting system and controls. As the Controller, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial health and integrity of our organization. You will be responsible for the entire department, including creating new processes, billing customers, commission statements, and regulatory reporting.
Responsibilities
- Generates quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and regulatory reports.
- Maintains effective internal controls to ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable regulations.
· Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, HST reports and bank reconciliation.
· Prepare and complete Monthly Financial Package within set number of days of month end close date. Prepare and complete Quarterly Financial Package using a fast close date. Communicate to various stakeholders including members of the Group across multiple geographies.
· Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
· Establish and modify documents and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures. Maintain and strengthen internal controls.
· Participate in financial standards setting and support in the forecast process.
· Provide and analyze financial information for annual external audits. Assist with tax audits and tax returns, liaising with appointed external auditors.
· Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance.
· Participate in reviews to ensure the business is continuing to meet current and changing compliance obligations, including statutory accounting and tax related requirements.
· Analysis, reporting and monitoring of KPIs, revenues, costs, risks, working capital and cash flow.
· Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
· Perform Ad hoc financial analyses as requested.
· Provide input into department’s goal setting process.
· Plan, assign and review staff’s work.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and completion of Canadian CPA designation or equivalent, or MBA is an asset.
- Ability to establish goals and guide strategic and operational planning in the finance organization.
- Effective communication skills to quickly establish key relationships within the Group and externally.
- SAP and Targetik experience an asset.
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
- Microsoft PowerPoint an asset
- Maintain the highest standards of accuracy and precision; detail-oriented, highly organized, and resourceful.
- Ability to respect and maintain the confidential nature of the data processed.
- Technical college or equivalent degree coupled with 2-3 years in insurance, banking, finance, and/or accounting experience. Minimum of 3 years of financial/ accounting experience. OSFI reporting experience an asset.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills with the ability to clearly communicate a vision, educate individuals and teams, and influence decisions.
- Insurance Industry experience is a MUST HAVE
