Job Description

Your New Employer


Your new employer is a well-established and reputable hotel. Situated in the heart of Whistler Village, it offers guests direct views of the slopes and provides easy access to a plethora of premium amenities just a stone's throw away.


Your New Role


Reporting the General Manager, you assume a pivotal position in the daily operations and comprehensive accounting activities. You will be responsible for the property's Accounting, Finance, and Business Support functions, with continuous effort to enhance workflow efficiency. Your responsibilities encompass a wide spectrum, including overseeing month-end procedures and reporting, managing payroll and credit matters, optimizing cash flow, revenue audit, preparing financial statements and other duties as required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Align financial performance with the annual company objectives and goals.
  • Analyze departmental outcomes and discrepancies from budget projections, providing variance analyses.
  • Produce financial reports and conduct thorough balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Present month-end Profit and Loss (P&L) statements and performance analyses to the General Manager.
  • Deliver precise and comprehensive full-cycle accounting, financial reports, and analyses to the Director of Finance on a timely basis.
  • Partner with Department Heads and Senior Management, ensuring alignment on objectives, understanding the long-term vision, and guaranteeing financial benchmarks are met.
  • Manage periodic payments to provincial government for Employee Health Tax and submission of year end returns.
  • Evaluate accounting data to gauge performance, profitability targets and budgetary benchmarks.
  • Maintain an innovative mindset, consistently developing new strategies to enhance business development.
  • Complete year-end financials for income tax return
  • Prepare month end procedures for hotel and Management Company including journal entries and reconciliations to HMS.
  • Developing proactive enhancements to systems, processes, and technologies, increasing operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the preparation of the bi-weekly payroll.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with internal and external auditors, facilitating seamless audit processes.
  • Develop, refine, and ensure adherence to forecasts and budgets while proactively monitoring their achievement.
  • Complete monthly GST returns
  • Compile all relevant data for quarterly audits, streamlining the audit preparation phase.
  • Directs forecasting and budgeting for all aspects of the business.
  • Prepare owners statements


What Sets You Apart


The ideal candidate:

  • Possess a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Finance, or a relevant field, or demonstrate an equivalent blend of educational background and practical work experience. Preferred qualifications include a CPA.
  • Has a strong background in the hotel industry is advantageous, with previous roles as a hotel Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager or Accounting Manager being advantageous.
  • Has previous managerial experience within the hotel sector is a valuable asset, with a proven track record in team development and leadership being essential.
  • Has familiarity with hotel operating systems and software, such as POS software, and reservation systems
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, ADP and Microsoft Excel.
  • 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in diverse realms of full cycle accounting, management, reporting, financial analysis, or related fields.
