What You Will Do:
The Employer Liaison/Job Coach is knowledgeable about the local, regional, provincial and, to some extent, the national labour market and the forces which impact upon it. They are specialists in the tools required to uncover hidden job market opportunities and develops jobs for the mutual benefit of the employer and job seeker. Employer Liaison’s facilitate and administer the placement of clients. This is a position is based on a high level of attention to detail.
The Employer Liaison/Job Coach works closely with employers and other Job Coaches to match assisted clients with sustainable jobs and other employment-related capacities within the labour market.
This position is the “face of the Y” with high community visibility; strict adherence to the YMCA’s values is imperative. The Employer Liaison obtains optimum placement results while maintaining YMCA values.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Understand the Performance Management Model and the Service Quality Standard and its composition, and actively work with the employment team to attain, maintain, and exceed that standard
- Develop and maintain knowledge about local employers, their business, and what they look for in new employees
- Maintain client and employer files to YMCA standards and maintains statistical records as required
- Work with Case Managers and Resource & Information staff to determine possible job placements and other employment-related opportunity matches, that address a client’s abilities, transferable skills, and skill limits
- Adherence to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description
- Liaise with Employer Liaisons from other agencies in the area to foster cooperative relationships and discuss best practices
- Actively participate in business community events to foster and maintain high visibility for the Employment Service and its services
- Local point of contact for employers. Builds relationships to understand employer business needs and markets Employment Services employer programs
- Demonstrate the business value in hiring People with Disabilities and helps dispel myths or misunderstandings to employers when promoting programs and clients
- Work with employers to place, match and job coach People with Disabilities, could include job carving for customized employment needs
- Provide access to financial supports available through employer programs, assisting with paperwork, monitoring, and flow of funds
- Provide targeted and customized job coaching that provides support for the placement needs and employer identified issues
- Identify required financial supports for Client to remove barriers to employment
- Assess workplace environments and employers to determine overall suitability for client placement, related opportunities, and assess basic workplace safety standards are met
- Liaise with the Case Manager/Client Support Specialist to implement and make available identified community partner resourcing for clients with identified barriers
- Coach employers and clients to help ensure job retention and successful outcomes
- Monitor client on-the-job progress and provide appropriate interventions
- Develop and facilitate workshops and information sessions for the employer community
- Participate regularly in regional Employer Support committee meetings to represent local community employer needs and share on the ground labour market information
- Provide information and training to employers on using the Magnet system to post jobs and meet identified training needs
- Identify and develop new opportunities to promote the YMCA Employment Service to employers, clients, and the broader community
- Assist employers to develop training plans and detailed retention plans for clients
- Market YMCA programs and clients directly to employers using a structured marketing approach (prospecting, needs analysis, selling, follow-up)
- Support employer recruitment efforts and participate in Employment Services employer programs
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Clear Vulnerable Sector check
- Requirement of Standard First Aid and CPR
EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport with employers, members, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders
- Demonstrated presentation skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, problem solve, and manage crisis situations
- Accessible via phone or text after hours for crisis support specifically related to retention
- Strong understanding and knowledge of local, regional, provincial and, to some extent, the national labour market and the forces which impact upon it
- Proficient in Outlook, MS Word, Power Point, Access, and Excel
- Familiarity with Bridges Out of Poverty Framework an asset
- Valid class G driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to travel throughout the region of Peterborough
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written, maintaining confidentiality at all times
- Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
- Minimum college level diploma in marketing or Social Sciences, University degree in Business Administration, or related field preferred
- Demonstration of proficiency with CaMS (Case Management Solution) or other system, which supports the delivery of client and employer information, is an asset
- Self-motivated and a strong team player
EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with diverse groups and youth at risk
- 2 years successful experience in job development or sales/marketing
- Experience coaching individuals in a human services setting
- Experience using Motivational Interviewing techniques
