Job Summary
A prominent Manufacturing company has a great opportunity for Electrical Engineering Design Lead to join our multi-disciplinary team! As Electrical Engineering Design Lead, you will Supervise the electrical junior engineers/designers within the Engineering Department as well as provide support to the Electricians on the Production floor.
Job Responsibilities
1. Generating electrical design drawings and other documentation including single line diagrams, electrical schematics, panel layouts, load lists, cable schedules, and other related documentation
2. Industrial design experience including equipment layouts, grounding, cable tray layouts, lighting layouts, heat tracing, building services, conduit/cable & panelboard schedules, and installation details
3. Performing calculations, nominal and peak loads, overcurrent protection devices, cable sizing, and voltage drop.
4. Generating detailed design of 480/600V AC and 24V DC electrical power panels for industrial applications.
5. Preparing detailed specifications for the following components and systems: electrical enclosures, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, transformers, cable trays, and cables, motor contactors, and other miscellaneous components of the electrical system.
6. Assist in the selection of suitable components and equipment, within budget.
7. Working with the in-house Production team and ensuring work packages, installation instructions, and required parts are in place ahead of the build schedule.
8. Working in multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with Mechanical Engineers and Project Engineers to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on all aspects of the electrical design.
9. Supervise electrical junior engineers and designers to ensure accurate delivery of engineering deliverables that meet project requirements, internal standards, code compliance, and industry standards of good engineering practices.
10. Assist in the preparation of project timelines and work schedules.
11. Provide estimating support to Project Management Team.
12. Supporting our in-house Production team in the installation and testing of panels and equipment.
13. Occasionally supporting hands-on commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
14. Occasionally traveling to customer sites for plant installations (for start-up and commissioning).
Job Requirements
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (P. Eng would be an asset) or equivalent in education and work experience.
2. 5+ years of experience designing low-voltage electrical systems and working with industrial control panels.
3. 5+ years of experience designing electrical drawings/schematics using AutoCAD (SolidWorks would be an asset).
4. Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Codes and their application. Knowledge of US Electrical Codes would be an asset
5. Control systems design, PLC design, and programming knowledge would be an asset
6. Experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset
7. Experience coordinating with production/assembly and creating build work packages.
8. Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams where multiple stakeholders are involved.
9. Solid electrical engineering foundation paired with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
10. Good computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
11. Hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting skills.
12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
