Smith + Andersen is seeking a Project Manager to join our growing Electrical team. The PM is a key player on our team that helps drive our projects over the finish line and focuses their efforts in the development of all system engineering concepts, design briefs and concept reports. The successful candidate will join an environment that demands strong technical design skills, strong client management skills, frequent collaboration across several teams and is driven by multiple project deadlines.


Your typical day will include communicating with project teams and clients, reviewing/selecting electrical equipment, reviewing deliverables/drawings and juggling multiple tasks for project execution. While leveraging your technical skills, you will also own project scope management, financial reporting and budgeting, and presenting our senior team with important updates.

The chosen candidate is adept at managing deadlines, providing direction to their team, and demonstrating their electrical design expertise.

What You’ll Do


  • Coordinate with the contract administration team regarding drawing reviews, proper set up of contract administration process and site activities
  • Review all deliverables for the project including reports, calculations, drawings, or/and specifications. Review for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development and as defined by S+A total quality management
  • Ensure the internal project team’s coordination processes with other disciplines are complete.
  • Act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of all activities for project, where needed by Principal in charge
  • Prepare, or assist Principal-in-charge with the development of all system engineering concepts (e.g. design brief) and concept report.
  • Prepare all change notices or reviews change notices issued by contract administration team.
  • Ensure tasks are completed both accurately and with the assigned hours/fee.
  • Support accounts receivable process.
  • Perform/arrange reviews of existing installation and manage the impact on the project.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to client/owner.
  • Advise Principal-in-charge or AP advised of all changes in scope of work and prepares amendments to the contract for review and submission to client.
  • Fully understands Codes and Standards relevant for the project.
  • Communicate all requirements to project teams, owner, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Organize and attends meetings including client meetings.
  • Prepare all calculations and select all equipment. May assign tasks to designer and BIM Technician where appropriate
  • Ensure shop drawing review process takes place within project timelines.
  • Promote and enforce company standards for project administration, documentation and processes.
  • Liaise with external consultants, vendors as required to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Review and manage the design in terms of construction budgets.
  • Understand, recommend and apply construction and/or project procurement methodologies to projects
  • Respond to both technical and financial queries related to the project.
  • Prepare and continually monitor a schedule of tasks required to complete the project including bill-able hours and critical data required for performance.
  • Coordinate all documents with the internal/ external project team (architect, interior designer, and other disciplines).


Who You Are


  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • 8 to 10 years of project engineering experience in the field of electrical building services with at least 3 years functioning at a PM level.
  • Demonstrates initiative and practical problem solving.
  • Able to handle multiple projects and clients.
  • Sound communication skills, demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Knowledgeable about the provincial building code, electrical code, CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES and NFPA standards
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, methods and standards.
  • Strong experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
  • Strong electrical design/ capabilities and ability to work independently.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. A senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
  • LEED Accreditation / Experience implementing sustainable design (LEED or Net-zero projects) is an asset.
