About The Role


We are looking to hire a Wind Electrical Engineer. Based either at TransAlta’s Pincher Creek Office in Alberta, Shelburne or Kingston Offices in Ontario, or our Matane Office in Quebec. This role will be reporting to the Supervisor Engineering, Wind & Solar Operations. You will work closely with the Wind and Solar Engineers to plan and implement engineering scope for power generation electrical projects.


This is a full-time salaried, safety-sensitive position. This role will also offer a blend of office time as well as time in the field with some travel across our facilities in Canada and the US (expected to be around 5% of the time).


What You Will Do


  • Completing technical due diligence for M&A and Business Development projects in line with standards set forth
  • Provide technical support to capital projects and turnarounds that meet the asset goals, when requested
  • Complete condition assessment and risk assessment work as required by business needs
  • Provide the day-to-day engineering support to operations, maintenance and forced outages to ensure the facility can operate safely and in compliance within technical policies, procedures and standards.
  • Complete timely Root Cause Failure Analysis, as well as recommend corrective actions
  • Provide emergency support for forced outages and other operational issues that may arise
  • Timely escalation to the Engineering Supervisor of technical issues and risks that affect overall accountability, as well to recommend any immediate actions, inspections, or testing that may be required as a part of the risk escalation
  • Establish a collaborative work environment with team, peers, stakeholders, and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner
  • Bring industry best practices, innovations/new technology to be evaluated by the business
  • Provide electrical engineering operational support of wind generating plant equipment such as substation, turbines, underground and overhead collector systems, control systems, switchgear, protective relays, and transformers
  • Provide detailed technical risk mitigations into the capital MRF process for both planned outages and non-turnaround work; this includes conceptual engineering work scopes and risk assessments that are well balanced to meet overall asset goals
  • Identify, document, update and communicate equipment risks and mitigations
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve current processes and improve equipment performance/reliability


What We Need From You


To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:


  • Wind, Solar, BESS plant, and/or high voltage substation operating experience
  • Able to travel within Canada and the US
  • Registered (or able to register) as a Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta, Ontario or Quebec, and in good standing
  • Self-starter, demonstrate initiative and be capable of working both independently and with others in a team environment

  • Successful completion of required pre-employment testing is a condition of employment
  • Hybrid work schedules will be considered
