Shifts: 3 shifts per week (11.25 hour shifts)


Salary: $22.74 - $28.43 per hour: to commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy


Status: Temporary Part Time (12 month contract)

Position Summary


As an integral member of the Neurophysiology Department, the Overnight Video-EEG Monitoring technician works at Toronto Western Hospital in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.


Duties


  • Preparing written hand-off reports required to document all seizure events for shift change and technologist review
  • Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Performing minimal patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care
  • Utilizing knowledge of patient safety and seizure identification to monitor up to 10 patients simultaneously and alert Nursing staff to seizures and active safety events, as per established standards; operating, troubleshooting and ensuring equipment is performing in an effective and efficient manner
  • Performing cross-functional responsibilities, as assigned and/or required
  • Participating in teaching, training and other educational activities
  • Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Qualifications


  • Familiarity with analyzing EEG recordings.
  • Must understand/know electrical safety standards.
  • Willingness to learn visual recognition of seizure activity.
  • Polysomnography experience considered for this position.
  • Membership with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and/or other relevant organizations an asset
  • At minimum, completion of an undergraduate degree program in Bachelors of Science or recognized equivalent
  • Required to multitask, e.g., flagging seizure activity on one patient whilst still monitoring 9 others.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Strong decision-making skills to identify which cases warrant RN or MD intervention.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (CAET) an asset.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, background and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
  • Two years practical and related experience and/or 6 months on the job training required (Willing to train the right candidate).
