Job Description

The distillery manager is one of the most senior positions at our distillery. They are responsible for a variety of administrative tasks and ensuring that the routine operation of the distillery and tasting room continues successfully. This role includes overseeing the production line and warehousing of various distilled beverages.


A distillery manager is responsible for driving improvement at a distillery. They must constantly look for new ways to improve production processes, the quality of the beverages being produced and the efficiency of the distillery.

Staff in this role will also be directly involved in every aspect of the business including sales, production, marketing and quality assurance. They will also lead tours, meet with clients and suppliers as they actively promote the products produced by the distillery.


Responsibilities


  • Help to market the distillery and improve its profile, including supporting marketing efforts by traveling to meet with customers and promoting the distillery at events.
  • Produce and/or supervise the production of new make spirit and gin, including planning, sourcing raw materials, scheduling production runs, and managing the production line.
  • Monitor costs during the production process and also do their best to avoid any mistakes that cause a loss on the production line.
  • Administration tasks, including recording data about the production process and warehousing of spirit
  • Manage the recruitment of staff and also be responsible for developing training materials and determining which staff should be promoted into new roles.
  • Manage the distillery’s workforce to meet production goals and customer experience needs
  • Organisethe maintenance of equipment to ensure that all equipment remains in top working order.
  • Ensure that the distillery’s products maintain strict quality standards
  • Manage distillery equipment byensuring that distillery equipment is used effectively and maintained correctly.
  • Produce regulatory documents to ensure compliance with all regulators.
  • Ensure environmental, health and safety compliance.
  • Constantly identify and work towards ways to improve the distillery.



Qualifications


  • Brewing and distilling education, for example a diploma/B.Sc./ M.Sc. in Distilling or a certificate from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.
  • Experience with whisky and gin production is an asset
