Job Description
Fluid Energy Ltd. is a global chemical company specializing in developing and manufacturing environmentally responsible, low-hazard, chemical systems. Since 2011, Fluid has been commercializing technically advanced modified, commodity chemicals and promoting the application of safe, effective chemical systems to industry and regulators worldwide.


At the beginning of 2023, Dorf-Ketal acquired Fluid in order to assist Fluid in reaching its goal of growing its presence around the world and product/industry diversification. Our patents and patent-pending formulas are superior to incumbent chemistries, providing many technical, transportation, safety and environmental advantages to our customers.


Fluid promotes a culture of transparency, communication, and collaboration to ensure that continued growth does not hamper the high quality of service delivered to clients.


Summary


Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Technology is responsible for all critical technical imperatives within the Fluid organization, on both the Energy and Industrial segments. The Director of Technology will leverage their energy experience and application knowledge to bolster the Company’s presence and status in the industry and in the presence of peers. This Directory of Technology will work alongside the CEO to directly influence the IP strategy of the organization.


Other strategic priorities will include:


  • Guiding the Lab Manager and ongoing lab activities, ensuring the fulfillment of testing requirements, and making solution-based recommendations as a result of testing outcomes.
  • Champion technical material development and work with the Marketing Manager to overhaul existing marketing materials (from a technical perspective), including the PDSs, brochures, websites and so on.
  • Providing direct support to Sales through meeting attendance, collaboration initiatives, presentations, etc.
  • Researching competitor technologies, while working with sales to recognize the evolving landscape of customer needs and requirements.
  • Directing the Lab Manager and their team on R&D and relevant IP activities.
  • Creation and delivery of internal technical training materials, while strategizing external training materials and opportunities.


Key Responsibilities:


Laboratory, Research & Development


  • Collaborate with the CEO and other key leaders in the organization to develop new chemical technologies.
  • Mentor the Lab Manager and team and assist with the prioritization of all testing and IP/R&D projects.


Sales & External Client Relations:


  • Acquire information in client meetings to develop new technologies and/or refine existing products, optimize profit and win new work.
  • Promote existing technology to clients whenever possible. Focus on presenting based on the technical merits of the products with a strong focus on education and ESG.
  • Travel as required to champion business development initiatives with, and training for, Fluid’s global sales force.
  • Visit remote blending facilities to train distributor sales teams as requested.
  • Attend client meetings with the sales group for technical consulting as requested.
  • Work with the Sales and Executive Teams to prioritize key accounts and product synergies with their respective operations.
  • Build upon Fluid’s existing network of technical contacts.
  • In collaboration with the sales team, engage key accounts to present current technology.


Internal Employee Relations


  • Collaborate with the CEO regarding sustainable chemistry and marketability and presentations.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing team on new marketing materials and the advancement of existing materials and handbooks across all product lines.
  • Work with the Sales and Executive teams to identify possible patent infringements from competitors.
  • Provide guidance on website enhancements and the addition of new information.
  • Generate and/or coordinate technical papers (i.e. SPE) internally and in cooperation with clients.
  • Attend conferences to learn about new trends in technology, interact with customers and promote Fluid products.
  • Provide regularly scheduled technical training for internal technical and sales employees.
  • Lead the development of Fluid’s sales training program and the associated development of materials.

Experience/Education


  • A post-secondary degree in Business, Marketing or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Experience in all aspects of sales, including growth strategies, distribution channel management, account development, and business planning.
  • 3+ years of experience in customer-facing sales or collaboration on sales initiatives.
  • A post-secondary degree or working towards a Master’s or Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field of science is required.
  • Valid driver’s license.


Working Conditions:


  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Occasional travel is required.
