Congregation Shaar Hashomayim
Congregation Shaar Hashomayim seeks a dynamic and energetic leader who will create and drive a vision for our Youth and Young Families Departments. The candidate will be a skilled relationship-builder with a commitment to Jewish living who will serve as the face and voice for youth, young family, and teen programming of the Shaar community.
The Director of Youth and Young Families is a full-time team member who is an effective communicator with both youth and parents, and will work closely with lay leaders and staff involved in relevant programming. The position reports to the Executive Director, in consultation with the Youth and Education Committees.
Knowledge of French is an asset.
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the design, development, and delivery of all youth and young family programs, including the recruitment, training, and managing of youth staff.
- Developing creative Shabbat and Holiday youth programming.
- Coordinating Mom & Tot Programs, and working within the young parent demographic to develop network and leadership opportunities.
- Stewarding and developing lay leaders with the aim of maintaining a robust and active committee structure, and partnering with committees for the effective delivery of programs.
- Liaising with other departments, including Adult Education, Music, to ensure youth/young family needs are met throughout organizational activities.
- Working together with on-site schools (Foundation, Netivot, and Akiva) and community organizations (such as PJ Library, Friendship Circle, MADA, Place Kensington) for purposes of outreach and partnership opportunities.
- Working with the local leadership of NCSY to implement effective and inspiring teen programming, and guiding the teen leadership board.
- Serving as site supervisor for the Shaar’s Shinshin, the Israeli youth leader who spends a year with our community.
