Job Description
Reporting to the Vice President, Community Medicine and Population Health, Interprofessional Practice/Development and Clinical Education, the Director of Geriatrics and Supporting Services is responsible for all activities encompassing both the administrative and patient care functions of the numerous clinical programs. This role will provide visionary leadership and sound decision making to ensure that the program/service’s strategic and operational plans are achieved and in alignment with the corporate strategic plan. In collaboration with the Chiefs of Service, Managers, Inter-professional Chiefs and other internal and external stakeholders, the Director will ensure the provision of safe, quality, evidence based, patient care, research and education in alignment with the corporate mission, vision and values. Further, the position will provide strategic direction and leadership to establish program specific service development that meets the needs of the community.


The Program Director is accountable for human resource and fiscal management in partnership with the program's management team. These accountabilities are set within the values and expectations for Hamilton Health Sciences.


  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, written and oral communication, critical thinking, analysis, consultation and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an environment that supports clinical excellence, continuous learning, innovation and research
  • Demonstrated scholarly and/or professional activity
  • Health Professional Master's Degree preferred, or equivalent related experience.
  • Previous experience in strategic program development
  • Demonstrated effective analytical, strategic, and decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership in system integration as it relates to clinical program at the provincial, regional and LHIN levels
  • Past clinical experience in a relevant health related field related to clinical program
  • Previous experience (5 to 7 years) progressive line management
  • Proven track record of managing complex change in organizations, and facilitating highly productive partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

The Community Medicine & Population Health, Interprofessional Development/Practice and Clinical Education Portfolio includes population health, seniors' strategy, ambulatory, complex and palliative care, and contributes to system wide transformative change. The Community Medicine and Population Heath Portfolio supports site activity at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Urgent Care Center, St. Peter’s Hospital and the Satellite Health Facility.


The Geriatrics and Support Services Program stretches across multiple sites and includes: Skin, Wound and Ostomy Team, Authorizing Mechanisms and Policy and Document Management Program (AMPDM), Vascular Access Team, HHS Seniors Program, Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP), Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit (GRU), and the SPH Centre for Healthy Aging (CHA).


Schedule Work Hours


Generally, Monday – Friday business hours; participation in the Director On-Call roster begins after 6 months in the role.
