DIRECTOR, FUND DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- In consultation with the Senior Director, recruits, interviews, and selects well-qualified fund development and community engagement staff.
- Defines expectations for self and others and acts to fulfill these expectations. Self-reflects, monitors, and corrects one’s own actions.
- Self-motivated and flexible, manages and prioritizes multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment of frequent change and within an ambiguous landscape.
- Capitalizes on opportunities to build meaningful relationships, both internally and externally.
- Manages, mentors, and coaches a team of four staff who support agency volunteers, stakeholder engagement, special events and all revenue generating programs ensuring they have clear direction, oversight, ongoing performance management and evaluation, opportunities for professional growth and development, all while removing barriers to success.
- Engages and/or consults with appropriate internal and/or external resources to optimize the success of all programs in the Development & Engagement portfolio.
- Develops and leads an appropriate donor recognition and stewardship program.
- Ensures accurate and effective donor and prospect records management.
- Manages projects from inception to completion and ensures deliverables on target outcomes.
- Determines agency needs/requirements into opportunities for stakeholder support for Community Engagement & Development to pursue.
- Monitors trends in the community and region to adapt donor engagement strategies.
- In collaboration with the Senior Director, Strategy, Impact & Engagement and the Director, Strategic Communications, develops and implements an effective communications strategy to broaden and diversify the DI’s donor base, further promote meaningful opportunities for donor/volunteer/community engagement, access to programs, and secure philanthropic support.
- Provides leadership, strategic management, expertise, counsel, and co-ordination on all revenue generating, volunteer, and community programs.
- Responsible for building a sustainable major gift and stakeholder engagement program through the identification, development and implementation of capital, annual, and multi-year plans.
- Responsible for generating fundraising revenue to achieve annual and project targets through philanthropic gifts, sponsorships, planned gifts, bequests, gifts-in-kind and special events management, including through a personal pipeline of major gift and legacy donor prospects over $50,000.
- Manages the development and implementation of new opportunities, including the application for funding, establishment of key deliverables, preparation of project work plans and the development of project structures with the support of the DI leadership team.
- Fosters a culture of philanthropy throughout the Drop-In Centre, so that everyone recognizes the importance of stewarding positive relationships and problem-solving for the best possible, mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Builds, implements, and maintains related processes and policy as required.
- Responsible for executing strategy for volunteer and community engagement, including programs such as: Practicum and 3rd party fundraising initiatives.
- Accountable for the volunteer management database, ensuring effective volunteer and community partner records management.
- Oversees the DI’s internal fundraising events and volunteer appreciation events.
- Informs the DI’s social media strategy.
- Supports the development and distribution of regular progress reports.
- Monitors expenses and analyzes budget reports and recommend changes as necessary.
- Develops and gains approval for detailed annual income and expenditure budgets.
- Special events planning and management.
- Post-secondary education or diploma in a related field
- Awareness of Federal and provincial legislation affecting charities
- Self-directed and action oriented
- Knowledge of Donor Bill of Rights and Fundraising Code of Ethics required.
- Proficient in Office365 and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with building and managing a portfolio of Major Gift donors of $50,000 to $1M.
- Minimum of 7 years of directly-related fundraising experience and a proven record of success in a non-profit setting required.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
- Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with multiple priorities at the same time.
- Proficient in Raiser’s Edge
- Proven skills and experience managing stakeholder relationships.
- Project management and community programs experience strongly encouraged.
- Eager to learn new systems and adopt improved best practices.
