Job Description

Looking for a change of scenery?EPLS Group of Companiesis seeking two Department Supervisors, Grocery and Warehouse, to join our team in Arviat, Nunavut! Previous experience managing in either department is an asset.


Job Duties

  • Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment and ensuring all health, safety, and security regulations are adhered to and required standards are met
  • Some travel may be required
  • Supervise and facilitate the daily operations of your department
  • Scheduled sharing with Store Leadership Team, responsibilities for opening and closing the store
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and merchandising of materials, furs, household products/supplies, and health and beauty aids
  • Proactive communication with Purchasing team members to ensure optimum levels of product are identified and executed
  • Contribute to a total team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Assist with database management: reconciling physical counts with computer data and resolving discrepancies; Apply product codes, labels, price labels, price tags, etc. for identification/control and POS scanning
  • Market merchandise by studying advertising, sales promotion, and display plans; analyzing operating and financial statements for profitability ratios
  • Responsible for meeting financial objectives for the department by following annual budgets; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; and initiating corrective actions
  • Scheduled sharing with Store Leadership Team, Store “On Call Duties”, for the purpose of providing store access for tradespersons requiring parts outside of normal store hours
  • Actively promote team synergy and provide operational support to all other departments as needed, to ensure effective and efficient store operations
  • Active contributions to the store team that maintain and advance operations by initiating, coordinating, monitoring, and enforcing EPLS policies, procedures, and operational processes
  • Ensure availability of merchandise and services; oversee and assist with inventory management
  • Assist with scheduling and assigning employees; follow up on work results and maintaining store staff performance by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Identify current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers and other persons in a position to understand service requirements
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the store manager or delegate
  • Prompt & and accurate recording/counting inventories received by air cargo and sealift
  • Assist in formulating pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities; determining additional needed sales promotion; authorizing clearance sales; studying trends
  • Greet and assist customers in a way that models exemplary conduct to other staff
  • Assist with recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees within the grocery department



Qualifications

  • Excellent teamwork and team-building skills
  • Basic office administration skills
  • Good computer literacy and skilled in Microsoft Office
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Professional, responsive, and possess a positive work attitude
  • Post-secondary education in industry related field is an asset
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory role in an industry-specific environment is an asset
  • Demonstrate ability to train and motivate staff
  • Experience in monitoring and assessing staff performance
  • Able to work in various temperatures
  • An understanding of applicable legislation such as health & and safety, employment laws, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience in a grocery/retail environment
  • Good time management and prioritizing skills
  • Well-defined sense of diplomacy
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends
