Reporting to the Director of Procurement – Outside Purchased Products, working at our Burlington, Ontario office, the Commodity Manager – Outside Purchased Products role is designed for the procurement professional with a strategic vision to implement broad organizational goals within the concept of Total Cost of Ownership while operating across multiple product lines and distribution points. Under limited direction this position is responsible for leading the planning and execution of key procurement strategies, primarily focused on finished goods for retail and aftermarket through both companies owned distribution as well as direct sales to customers. This position will work closely with cross functional teams including Product Management, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, and of course supplier partners. This position is responsible for targeting the best total cost of products in specified commodities, providing leadership in supplier management, project management, the consolidation of suppliers and processes, cultivating supplier relationships, issue resolution and managing service level agreements.


Objectives


  • Monitor and analyze trends in company spending and make recommendations for future investments while identifying possible savings opportunities
  • Take ownership of key spend areas, implementing controls and procedures to support, and driving cost conscious culture
  • Develop supplier negotiation plans
  • Partner with all levels of leadership cross-functionally to build impactful, efficient, and cost-effective business and vendor relationships
  • Limit company exposure to obsolescence through life cycles of various products.
  • Monitor and analyze trends and market conditions for the present and future pricing, availability and capacity of goods and services
  • Plan and negotiate short and long-term contracts with favourable impact on inventory goals, quality, continuity of supply, and corporate cost objectives.
  • Effectively manage key suppliers via risk mitigation, scorecards, and KPI’s.
  • Develop and achieve short and long-range operational objectives by maximizing cost savings while keeping in mind Total Cost of Ownership.


Day-to-day Responsibilities


  • Commodity tracking and analysis to help manage the strategic position of the company.
  • Identify supply base risk and drive implementation and closure of mitigation plans.
  • Monitor supply agreements
  • Select and maintain suppliers to support product category strategies and corporate procurement requirements.
  • Ensure AM Supplier guidelines and expectations are being met.
  • Address Accounts Payable issues when escalated.
  • Qualify sources to support category management and sales objectives
  • Develop formal commodity strategies to align short/medium/long-term goals with the needs of the business.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure business needs are being addressed
  • Be disruptive and challenge the status quo while mitigating risk
  • Maintain appropriate vendor files and reports as required.
  • Create total cost and “should” cost models and lead make/buy analysis.
  • Perform Supplier Risk Assessments to ensure new potential suppliers are viable and existing suppliers remain viable partners.
  • Ensure suppliers support effective inventory management through supplier performance monitoring and accurate PFEP’s
  • Track and analyze vendor quality performance.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Purchasing/Supply Chain Management, or Finance
  • Bilingual – French and English
  • Ability to work well in cross-functional teams in both plant and corporate environments.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and negotiation skills
  • Ability to lead a diverse team in a hybrid office model
  • Experience with procurement systems and familiarity with source to pay technical platforms
  • Demonstrated abilities to implement process change improvements and best practices.
  • Must be experienced, constructing formal supply contracts, and cost models.
  • CPM or APICS a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience in strategic procurement management in a high volume, highly complex manufacturing and distribution environment.
  • At a minimum, intermediate MS Excel skills are required.
