Job Description
Job Summary:


The Claims Supervisor will manage and oversee claims for all Van-Kam locations. This role will help resolve complex claims and disputes and work with other departments to improve claim processing procedures and customer satisfaction. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is a full-time position based out of our Surrey head office.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.


Responsibilities:


  • Work with management at all terminals to help with final decision for damaged freight.
  • Review, approve, and deny claims. Investigate complex claims as required.
  • Work closely with the Overage, Shortage and Damage (os&d) department, Customer Service, and other terminals to resolve issues for lost and found shipments.
  • Analyzing data and reports to identify possible trends or areas for improvement.
  • Liquidate salvageable assets and determine appropriate price.
  • Oversee and work alongside Claims Clerk.
  • Enforce company claims procedures, including securing any salvage before a claim is finalized.
  • Accept claims from customers.


Required Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


  • Exceptional customer service skills – this position will work directly with both external customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Supervisory experience is required.


Training And Experience


  • Previous claims experience is required.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of and understanding of the trucking industry.


Work Environment


This is a typical office role, however the successful candidate will be expected to visit the dock and look for freight as required.
