Job Description
ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

The City of North Vancouver (the City) respectfully acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The City of North Vancouver is committed to reconciliation with these Nations, who have lived on these lands since time immemorial.

Born and shaped by its rich history, diverse culture, and natural environment, the City is a community with a long-term vision for the future and brimming potential. Residents and businesses make the City unique, and they take pride in being a welcoming host, inspiring example, and inviting home to people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests.

Through Council’s Strategic Plan, Council’s Vision is to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World” and they have identified five key priorities to support this vision and to guide their work: a City for People, a Liveable City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City. The Strategic Plan is intended to support Council’s decision making for future initiatives, projects and plans, and provides guidance to City staff, partners and the community.

About The Role

As an appointed officer of the City of North Vancouver and reporting to the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, the City Clerk plans and directs the work of a department engaged in providing decision-making support, as well as administrative and corporate support services for Council. The City Clerk is responsible for the general local election and acts as an advisor to Council on procedural matters, and is an important liaison between elected officials, the general public, and agencies. The City Clerk, as the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy lead for the City of North Vancouver and its Boards and agencies, helps instill public trust and confidence. This is an integral position for the City that provides a bridge between City processes and practices, stakeholders, and the delivery of services.

This is an exciting opportunity for a progressive and flexible leader who is passionate about the work of the Office of the City Clerk. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (ideally in Business Administration, Public Administration, Local Government and/or Legal Administration) and 10 years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in a public/government administration at the municipal level. The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of governance policy, information management and the municipal election process. The role requires excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, delivered with a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to community issues.
