Summary


At STEMCELL Technologies, Canada's Largest Biotech company, we are transforming our procurement department and building out a proactive and strategic category management function. We are looking for experienced Category Managers with a strategic mindset, strong supplier management skills, and exceptional negotiation abilities to help us get there.


The Category Manager, Biologics will be responsible for overseeing Procurement activities pertaining to a portfolio of biological raw materials used for the manufacture of STEMCELL products, including: sera, purified and recombinant proteins, lipids, and enzymes. In this role you will use in-depth knowledge of markets, suppliers, products, and their cost drivers to develop, implement and manage the category strategy, with a focus on maximizing value and mitigating risks. You will work closely with suppliers and STEMCELL’s internal teams (Finance, Research & Development, Process Development, Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Production and Planning teams) to ensure supply continuity for STEMCELL products. This is a developing role within the Procurement team with an opportunity to contribute to shaping STEMCELL’s Procurement organization of the future.



Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develop market knowledge through identifying market leaders, understanding value chains, supply and demand drivers, monitoring supply trends and shifts in technology to identify areas of opportunity and risk
  • Facilitate cross functional strategic sourcing and supplier selection; work closely with external departments to align and ensure the selection meets the needs of the business
  • Engage in contract negotiations, supply agreement development, contract execution and management
  • Practice supplier relationship management principles for key suppliers; conduct internal and supplier-facing business reviews to monitor supplier’s spend and performance to drive improvement opportunities/initiatives such as cost reductions, operational efficiencies and quality improvements
  • Represent Procurement in cross-functional meetings and projects as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for Procurement activities


Knowledge And Qualifications


  • Strong business analytical skills and comfort with identifying data needs and sources
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Science with 5+ years of relevant experience in procurement or supply chain discipline with market segment knowledge for biological materials
  • Experience in supply negotiations and post award contract management
  • Excellent facilitation and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and deliver complex objectives under stringent timelines
  • Team player and strong collaborator with a growth mindset, and able to stay calm and focused in high-pressure situations
