Casual Instructors - Philosophy

Academic Services is focused on supporting SAIT’s schools and departments in their pursuit of SAIT’s strategic priorities. Academic Services brings together several academic development, delivery, and quality assurance units with a common goal: student success. Academic Services provides unique, flexible support programing designed to help learners succeed in their chosen SAIT career program.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Academic Chair - Communication and Liberal Arts Studies, the School of Academic Services is looking to hire Casual Instructors to teach Critical Thinking (PHIL 241) courses in Spring/Summer session 2023.

The ideal candidates should have a passion for teaching diverse students, thrive in sharing knowledge and enjoy coaching students to succeed and think critically. The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching philosophical concepts using experiential (task-based) learning methodologies.

The Role

• Evaluate student progress and achievement providing timely, formative feedback
• Prepare in-class and study materials for learners
• Attend department meetings and SAIT’s instructor training program
• Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
• Stay abreast of emerging pedagogical issues and educational technologies
• Instruct Philosophy courses to undergraduate students

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Philosophy
• Graduate education and/or work experience in adult education would be an asset
• Minimum of 3 years’ post-secondary teaching experience in a relevant discipline
• Good computer skills and experience teaching technology-enhanced courses are required

Knowledge

• Subject-matter expertise in critical thinking, ethics, philosophical frameworks, and ethics and technology
• Ability to collaborate with Academic Chairs and faculty across SAIT
• Willingness to collaborate with colleagues on the Communication and Liberal Arts Studies team
• Expertise in a variety of teaching modalities including face-to-face, online, blended
• Background in adult education
