Job Description
Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centers across the province. The Career Centre Manager is required to manage the day-to-day operations of the Centre. This position will ensure that the work carried out aligns with the goals of SIIT to provide service to clients that will lead to employment and training. The incumbent is accountable to lead, train and maximize the team's effectiveness and performance to ensure the highest quality of services and timeliness of deliverables, in addition to guiding their daily work. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.


  • Work with the Joint Training Committee Coordinator and the Apprenticeship system to maximize participant certification
  • Support SIIT Academic Program Coordinator(s) for the efficient delivery of training provided by the Centre by assessing participants' needs and desires
  • Coach, train and develop employees to assure growth and development of those individuals and the department as a whole
  • Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
  • Manage the recruitment, assessment and evaluation of clients; including assessing individuals to determine, skills, work experience, aptitude, job readiness and other abilities
  • Ensure that the Steering Committee is engaged in the Centre's activities and that members are reflective of the regions labour market
  • Monitor progress in meeting unit objectives, project plans and priorities as set out in SIIT's Strategic Plan and stakeholder agreements
  • Work with various partners in order secure funding for programs
  • Work closely with the Director of Career Centres to fulfill the goals of EDCS
  • Develop innovative solutions to resource challenges while ensuring alignment with and support of strategic goals and stakeholder agreements
  • Partner with local First Nation communities to create awareness of the opportunities within the Career Centre network
  • Liaise with training institutes, industry, and other agencies to identify and assist in the delivery of training and other employee development initiatives; this includes collaborating with Academics and Finance of the training delivery budgets
  • Take a lead role in building and leading the department through employee selection, coaching and development
  • Ensure resources are allocated in accordance with the financial planning and operating budget
  • Work with employees, employers, and agencies to identify and address employment barriers
  • Collaborate with industry stakeholders and Academic areas within SIIT to support the identification of responsive demand-based training programs. Develop and maintain close connections with employers in the province to assist in their labour requirements


Required Qualifications & Experience: Related Post-secondary education or JP certification is required; previous experience in a leadership role is also required. Experience in assessing and counseling First Nation adults is considered an asset; experience working with Microsoft office suite of programs is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. Incumbent must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation as travel is required.


As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
