The Buyer of Commodity Purchasing position is responsible for the tactical procurement of all raw material, purchased component, and sub-contract/outsourced products to support the organization. Each Buyer may have a speciality commodity or group of commodities that they champion but the role includes cross training and understanding of procurement of all commodities within the organization. This individual will utilize knowledge, skills and experience to build, send, and manage initial RFQ's to obtain engineering estimates and/or official quotations from suppliers to support the Estimating & Quoting (Sales) Divisions of the organization. If Marwood is awarded the Business then this individual will be responsible for final supplier negotiation and selection based on a total enterprise cost approach. This includes purchasing goods and services that meet product and quality requirements and specifications at the most favorable price for the company, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers.


Responsibilities


  • All other relevant duties as assigned.
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate supply chain activities.
  • Advise departments and business units of lead time required to obtain products or services.
  • All aspects of direct employee relations (i.e. hire, train, performance appraisal, discipline, attendance, etc.).
  • Research and survey buying markets in order to source the most optimal suppliers, in accordance with corporate objectives.
  • Other misc. tasks may include IMDS creation, diversity spend and conflict mineral reporting, Supplier USMCA Declaration (incl. tariff code & Country of Origin) management
  • Place purchase orders ensuring flow of inventory that guarantees optimum stock levels and meets turnover goals.
  • Sourcing, negotiation, contracting & executing agreements to fulfill day-to-day business needs, primarily for commodity materials & services not available on existing agreements.
  • Prepare and administer bids, requests for quote, requests for proposal, requests for information, and other vendor documentation.
  • Strategic forecasting, contract negotiation, development of purchasing policies and procedures for ensuring the availability of all necessary materials required to support the manufacturing process
  • Develop purchasing policies and procedures and control purchasing department budget
  • Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
  • Identify vendors of all relevant commodities and maintain internal commodity catalogue.
  • Analyze inventory needs based on sales trends and inventory levels.
  • Review and process claims against suppliers.
  • The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for occasionally leading and aiding in-the-development-of and instituting Optimized Processes. Assigned areas of focus may include; Marwood Systems, Procurement Operations, Commodity Management interfaces, Materials, Logistics, Contract Management, Supplier Management and Contract Administration.
  • Manage service level agreements, scope of work, and contract terms with service providers.
  • Utilize knowledge, skills and experience to build, send, and manage initial RFQ's to obtain engineering estimates and/or official quotations from suppliers
  • Stay current with internal and external factors impacting procurement function.
  • Provide product, storage and order information to all internal departments as requested.
  • Managing purchasing related project teams and initiatives with operations, engineering, etc.
  • Issue and maintain spot buy and blanket purchase orders for assigned commodities
  • Work with AP department to arrange for payments to vendors for products or services procured.
  • Develop and implement commodities purchasing/inventory policies including the development, implementation and review of MOS's and KPI's.
  • Effectively work with Marwood Supplier Quality Representatives to help continuously evaluate and improve the current supply chain while constantly exploring and evaluating new potential suppliers across all commodities.
  • Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.
  • Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress and contact clients and suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Process Improvements and Process expertise for Procurement & Supply Chain.
  • Be familiar with and properly utilize all customer portals and/or applications that are relevant to executing this role effectively.
  • Negotiate or oversee the negotiation of purchase contracts.
  • Commodity Management support (Assisting in Implementing process improvements and Supplier Integration, etc.)
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the commodities purchasing activities of the organization.
  • Evaluate cost and quality of goods or services.
  • Advise Marwood management on important procurement, purchasing, supply chain and inventory matters.


Key Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Business, Finance, Engineering or Supply Chain Management
  • 5 - 7 years progressive experience in a purchasing role.


Additional Technical And Professional Requirements


  • Demonstrated understanding of integrated supply chain and logistics concepts and theories.
  • Experience drafting initial RFQ's and vendor agreements including the ability to strategically assess and mitigate risk with vendors and suppliers through well-structured agreements.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners.
  • Knowledge of local and global markets for the industry.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows environment.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices.
  • Demonstrated work experience of successful JIT management required.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate tools for grading, analyzing, and assessing materials, equipment, supplies, services, and other commodities.
  • Basic mathematical skills with ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages and averages required.
  • Strong writing skills for creating reports, correspondence, contracts, requests, bids, and other documentation.
  • Working experience in the USMCA auto parts industry preferred.
