Business Ethics Business Partner (Hybrid Role)
Purpose:
The purpose of the Business Ethics and Group Policy Framework team is to establish, implement, maintain (and continuously improve) effective compliance programmes to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct within Drax Group plc.
The Business Ethics Business Partner (‘BEBP’) will support the Business Ethics Centre of Excellence (‘CoE’) by working in partnership with business leaders and other internal stakeholders to ensure Drax’s compliance programmes are aligned to the organisation’s strategy and can be practically implemented across North America. This is achieved through an in-depth understanding of the Pellet Operations business unit, combined with comprehensive knowledge of Business Ethics legislation and best practice.
As part of the wider Business Ethics team across the group, the Business Ethics Business Partner needs to be confident in representing their business unit and contributing to the overall Business Ethics workplan. Postholder needs to possess strong stakeholder and relationship management skills and to be able to identify emerging risks, so that effective controls can be implemented.
The Business Ethics Business partner will support the team’s primary objective which is to ensure continual compliance with the legal and regulatory obligations applicable to the Group relating to anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), competition (anti-trust), financial crime, supply chain human rights (SCHR) and whistleblowing (speak up).
Dimensions:
  • Multi-disciplined knowledge – must be a technical specialist with good experience of Business Ethics systems, processes, and protocols
  • Will work autonomously, potentially in a different time zone to the wider team
  • Responsible for professional business ethics advice, support, and guidance
  • Business unit comprises multiple sites, with different risks, cultural challenges, markets, internal stakeholders, third party stakeholders
  • Reports to the Head of Business Ethics and Group Policy Framework
  • Supports senior leaders up to and including ExCom level
Key Accountabilities:
  • Deliver an effective service that positively influences Drax’s ‘doing the right thing’ culture
  • Coach and develop people leaders, building their skills and competency to manage and maximise their effectiveness and performance and that of their teams on business ethics related topics
  • Partner with other BEBPs and the CoE to successfully deliver the business ethics workplan, supporting projects, reporting, and annual processes as required
  • Challenge, support, and coach their business unit in the effective delivery of business ethics programmes
  • Identify and understand new and evolving ethical risks and challenges to ensure the effective development and delivery of business ethics programmes
  • Engage with their business unit to assist in the formulation of key business ethics initiatives, adding value through in-depth business ethics insight and knowledge
  • Assess business ethics trends and metrics; provide insight, challenge and support and proactively work with the business to develop solutions to improve business ethics programmes
  • Provide BEBP support to other areas of the business, as may be required from time to time
  • Facilitate and prioritise the demand on the services and expertise of the CoE
  • Partner with the Whistleblowing Officer and/or the CoE to deliver timely Speak Up and Conflict of Interest investigation outcomes
  • Partner with senior leaders to understand pipeline opportunities/strategy and assess whether the business ethics programmes support these, engaging the CoE as necessary
  • Assess business ethics programme change outcomes and their contribution to achieving business strategy, thereby driving continuous improvement
  • Partner with senior leaders and the CoE to ensure the effective integration of new acquisitions into the business ethics programmes and group policy framework

  • Proven ability to develop business ethics solutions in line with business requirements
  • Excellent working knowledge of business ethics practices and legislation

  • Self-motivated, flexible and be able to work with minimum supervision
  • Proven business partnering experience, supporting multiple business areas with diverse needs and views

  • Ability to communicate, negotiate, network, engage and influence across all levels of the business

  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Able to spot trends and make considered but timely decisions
  • Experience in supporting the development and delivery of team strategy

  • Candidates should be flexible to travel to other Drax sites within the geographical scope of the role (US, Canada)
This is a Hybrid role with 2 to 3 days in the Vancouver Drax Office.
