Major Activities of the Job:
Perform animal care, animal husbandry and enrichment for various laboratory animal species.
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP's and HSE policies and procedures.
  • Perform a high standard of animal care and husbandry including such activities as the daily health monitoring of various laboratory animals; planning and preparation of caging for new animals; receiving and housing incoming animals, monitoring environmental and housing conditions ensuring clean and adequate food, water and caging; routine cage cleaning and disinfection; ensuring animal enrichment schedules are followed, as outlined in S.W.I.'s/S.O.P.'s; carcass removal and disposal.
Perform equipment and facility maintenance in and around the animal facilities.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in and around facility work areas such as animal rooms, office areas, staff areas, corridors, storage rooms, procedure rooms, cage wash areas, external storage areas (ie. external facility areas, loading docks, barn or sheds). These duties include washing floors, walls, work surfaces, windows, maintenance of cleaning equipment, monitoring and changing of animal room air filters, cleaning of freezers and fridges, organizing staff laundry supplies, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP's and HSE policies and procedures
Ensure adherence and compliance to cGMP' s and HSE policies and procedures throughout all activities. Timely review and completion of required documentation including training documentation, S.O.P.'s/S.W.I.'s/A.U.P.'s. animal facility/equipment documentation and GMP updates.
  • Ensure animals are correctly identified upon arrival and monitor to ensure adequate individual or cage identification until released.
  • Review and respond to Company-related e-mail, as required. Assist with organization and filing,of facility/equipment documentation as required.
  • Ensure all general facility and animal room documentation is reviewed/completed in a timely manner while ensuring cGXP is maintained.
  • Complete routine reviews and documentation of all relevant S.W.I.'s/ S.O.P.'s /A.U.P.'s, policies and produres.
  • Complete and maintain on the job training records according to current Lesson Plans - attend and participate in relevant training as required.
Maintain animal health monitoring systems including procedures, treatments and documentation as required. Assist with animal restraint/technical/testing procedures as required.
  • Ensure animals found ill or injured are correctly identified and monitored. Perform procedures and/or treatments, as directed or under special direction, document as required.
  • Assist with animal restraint I technical I testing procedures as required. Ensure adherence to cGMP's and HSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP's and HSE policies and procedures.
Assist in maintaining adequate inventory for animal feed, bedding, cleaning supplies, chemicals, gowning materials and animal enrichment supplies, as required
  • Monitor and determine weekly requirements and expiry dates for such supplies as feed and bedding. Report requirements for other routine use supplies and materials such as cleaning agents, gowning I PPE materials, chemicals and enrichment supplies.
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP's and HSE policies and procedures.
Training /SkilIs upgrade/Literature Reviews
  • Attend available seminars on topics related to laboratory activities, as recommended by Manager.
  • Complete On-the-job training according to current Lesson plans, and document as required.
  • Attend & participates (discussion & presentation) in relevant training sessions continuously.
  • Complete the relevant and required tests and trainings on site procedures, USP, EP, ACS, etc. as required.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled GMP updates and safety training
  • Assist in training of new staff or existing personnel as required
  • Perform literature searches to stay abreast of equipment/software upgrades and new technology.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Well-developed Computer Skills.
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Awareness of MSDS, Health Risks including animal allergens and zoonotic diseases.
  • Minimum of two-three (2-3) years Associate’s Degree (Animal Health Technician/ Veterinary Technician) , plus a minimum of six (6) months of previous relevant work experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate and perform handling and technical procedures for various species as required.
  • Preferred Registered Laboratory Animal Technician certification from the Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Science, plus a minimum of six (6) months of previous relevant work experience.
  • Ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Sound knowledge in Animal Health and Disease Control
Hours Of Work:
  • Inclusive from Monday - Friday: 6:30a.m. – 2:30p.m.
