Position Overview


A Polysomnography Technician, Under Direct Supervision Of a Polysomnography Technologist, The Polysomnography Coordinator, And Sleep Disorder Centre/HVADS Manager (indirect Reporting Relationship To Sleep Disorder Centre Medical Director)


  • Participates in the day-to-day operations of the Sleep Disorder Centre.
  • Performs routine equipment care and maintenance; conducts routine inventory of supplies
  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
  • Performs diagnostic, therapeutic, and research Polysomnography studies and related therapies.


Experience


  • Basic computer skills/knowledge is required.
  • Practical experience using polysomnography equipment, electro-encephalography, electrooculography, electromyography, respiratory monitoring and electrocardiography required.
  • Practical experience using respiratory equipment in the treatment of sleep apnea is also required.


Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)


  • Knowledge of basic respiratory physiology preferred.
  • A minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a Polysomnography Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies (Phase I and Phase II checklists) or successful completion of a polysomnography training program.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with MHC Policy #A30-30.


Certification/Licensure/Registration


  • Current and valid CPR certificate is required.

  • Attends relevant education programs, seminars, lectures, workshops, etc. to provide high quality service to patients and the Centre.
  • Demonstrates appropriate social skills.
  • Works within the Centre’s core values, philosophy, vision, C.Q.I. goals, policies and procedures.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of polysomnography EEG/respiratory therapy through current literature, publications, etc.
  • Assumes responsibility for ongoing education and participates in professional activities for personal and professional growth.
  • Demonstrates effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow directions.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
