Job Summary


Influence complex natural resource initiatives


This position will work to advance fish and aquatic habitat management and conservation in the beautiful Skeena Region, home of world-renowned fisheries and amazing cultural and recreational opportunities. With reconciliation a key mandate for the BC Public Service, work in deep collaboration with Indigenous groups will be a regular and integral aspect of the job. The successful candidate's expertise in fish and aquatic habitat, habitat restoration, watershed management, and fish biology will be applied to a wide range of fish and aquatic habitat management projects and programs within the Skeena Region.


The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic growth. The Ecosystems Section of the Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems Division provides the technical expertise to support fish and wildlife habitat initiatives, and advance conservation and co-management in BC.

Job Requirements


Education & Designation


  • Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of employment.
  • Undergraduate Degree or higher in biological sciences or equivalent (e.g., natural resource management, ecology, zoology, hydrology, forestry, etc) and 2 years of related experience*


Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Biologist (RP Bio) with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of appointment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.


  • 2 years of experience in each of the following, or a combination totaling 2 years:
  • Experience in conducting environmental monitoring and assessments.
  • Experience in field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting.
  • Experience providing advice within a regulatory regime.
  • Experience collaborating and/or consulting with First Nations on resource management issues.


Preference May Be Given To Applicants With The Following


  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
