FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Intermediate Biologist
Laich-Kwil-Tach Environmental Assessments LP (LKT), a Wei Wai Kum (Campbell River) and We Wai Kai (Cape Mudge) First Nations joint venture, is seeking to hire a full-time biologist in Campbell River, B.C. LKT fulfills environmental related services for and on behalf of the two nations.The biologist’s purpose is to fulfill the field and reporting aspect of a wide range of biological and environmental related tasks.The ideal candidate would have post-secondary education in the field of biology or sciences, a reasonable amount of directly related experience in the environmental field and be in good standing with the College of Applied Biology.The successful applicant would be expected to support the existing field and office programs including environmental monitoring, fisheries assessments, water quality, habitat assessments and more.
The position involves:
- Planning and conducting various other field programs including but not limited to water quality collection, fisheries, amphibian, bird and invertebrate assessments, habitat assessments.
- Review and preparation of technical reports.
- Conducting Environmental Monitoring for construction projects including fish and amphibian salvage.
- Supervision of field technicians.
Qualifications:
- Ability to prepare and publish reports.
- Graduation from a recognized university with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable biological, environmental sciences, or resource management science with a minimum of 4 years fisheries or environmental experience and 3 years of construction environmental monitoring.
- Registration with a professional association would be an asset.
- The following certifications or willingness to obtain these qualifications upon hiring: swiftwater rescue training, SVOP, MED, environmental monitoring, commercial diver, electrofishing, first aid, and supervisor training.
- Experience with municipal, provincial and federal policies, best management practices, and legislation.
- Demonstrates initiative, good judgment, dependability, flexibility, leadership, reliability.
- Extensive environmental monitoring training and experience.
- Experience in the analysis and interpretation of biological and environmental data
- Experience collaborating with a wide range of user groups including industry, consultants, First Nations, and other government agencies including Fisheries & Oceans Canada and BC Hydro.
Hours:40 hrs/ week
Salary:$65,000 to $85,000 commensurate with education and experience.Pension and Benefits Package.
