Job Summary
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Nurse and working closely with the Chief Nurse and Executive Medical Director the post holder will provide strong professional leadership across the scope of the patient safety and quality agenda to ensure high quality safe clinical care is delivered consistently across the Trust working collaboratively with all colleagues to support the delivery of safe care. The post holder will work collaboratively to lead the direction of the Trust's Quality Strategy ensuring frameworks are in place with effective processes, systems and training to support our people to implement these frameworks to ensure safe, high-quality care for patients.
Main duties of the job
Demonstrate compassionate leadership and support the continued development of a patient safety culture.
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop one culture of care approach across the Trust aligned to the principles of a Just and Learning organisation.o Lead on the implementation and embedding of the Patient Safety incident response framework (PSIRF).o To be the recognised expert leading on patient safetyo Work with colleagues across the organisation to develop clinical dashboards to support the consistent measuring and monitoring of patient safety data across the Trust, with a focus on improvement planning to ensure learning and change when required
  • Provide oversight and support in relation to all aspects of regulatory inspections and compliance.
  • Work in partnership with other Executive Directors and their teams to provide professional support in relation to the post holders responsibilities. o To support the Chief Nurse and Executive Medical Director in the delivery of the Trust strategic objectives
  • To particularly maintain relationships with the coroner's office and the Trust solicitors in relation to patient safety issues and to ensure that appropriate legal advice and guidance is embedded into future policies and processes
  • Lead on the approach aligned with PSIRF to learning from incidents, complaints, coroner's inquests, clinical audit and other sources, ensuring that executive directors are sighted on relevant themes and improvement plans.

Job responsibilities
Operationally responsible for the team as identified in the corporate structure, specifically line managing the Head of Risk and Compliance, Head of Quality and Safety, Head of Legal Services, Head of PALS & Complaint, Senior CQC & Compliance Manager and the Matron for patient safety and quality.

Person SpecificationEligibility , Qualifications And Training
  • A detailed awareness and experience of delivery of the clinical and corporate governance agendas
  • O Experience of leading teams and managing complex staffing issues
  • O Recognised management or leadership qualification or equivalent experience o Extensive post registration experience working effectively at a senior level to deliver high quality patient centred services
  • O Demonstrable change management experience of a complex nature
  • Evidence of continuous professional/personal development post qualification
  • Demonstrate ability to understand a financial budget and interpret/resolve issues identified
  • Expert knowledge of the national and local agendas in relation to professional leadership of nurses, midwives and Allied Health Professionals
  • Demonstrable Skills and experience in the Patient Safety Agenda
  • O Master's degree (working towards) or equivalent experience
  • O Up to date knowledge of NHS system reform policy and other key policy drivers (Performance management, operating framework, capacity planning, payment by results, Integrated Care Systems, Foundation trust issues)
  • Evidence of service development
  • First degree in a relevant subject
  • O Hold professional registration with NMC or AHPF
