Job Description

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting our NS operations team in ensuring the safety of our projects through compliance, education, and mentoring.


Responsibilities


  • Monitor company assets for annual and required maintenance and inspections
  • Respond to incidents and complete and/or collect necessary paperwork
  • Perform job site safety inspections
  • Provide administrative assistance with documentation on site (ie. hazard assessments, pre-use inspections,verifying training documentation for sub-contractors)
  • Conduct Safety Orientations and complete necessary documentation
  • Conduct and submit weekly site reports to H&S Manager
  • Complete incident investigations when necessary
  • Assist with the implementation of field level safety software
  • Coordinate employee safety training
  • Ensure legislative compliance on all projects
  • Inform H&S Manager of major safety violations on site or potential critical tasks
  • Conduct hazard assessments
  • Implement corrective actions on site when needed
  • Conduct Toolbox Talks as requested
  • Conduct or assist in JOHSC meetings across all sites


Qualifications


  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
  • Knowledgeable in the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Experience working on multiple projects and working along side site-based teams.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and openly with subcontractors, team members and supervisors in a timely, positive, and clear manner.
  • Formal education in health and safety is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office and field-based safety software. Both mobile and desktop.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a similar role in the construction industry
